Berry Bros. & Rudd
Scotland
Single Malt
A single cask Caol Ila, bottled by the world-famous London wine merchants, Berry Brothers and Rudd. This was distilled in 1982 and aged in cask 6510 for 29 years before bottling in 2011, un-chillfiltered and at natural cask strength. Great stuff…
Oily and coastal with notes of butterscotch, iodine, sea spray and gentle peat smoke, a touch of caramel, cold ashes and maybe a hint of paraffin.
Woody and spiced, lapsang souchong, grapeseed oil, cereals, grist, salt on a lemon wedge, olive oil and black pepper. Gentle wood smoke and malt.
Long and tangy with crisp, dry fruits and woodsmoke.
Lots of peat smoke on the nose. Unexpectedly tangy flavour - as though it's been infused with lime. Smoke, again. With a little water, plum and pear skin aroma. The flavour is unlike any whisky I've tried - richly fruity, with a little caramel and some bitterness. Later, saltiness. Really amazing - a new dimension.
