    Caol Ila 12 Year Old

An Islay classic that we will never get enough of. Caol Ila 12 year old is the entry-level bottling from the Caol Ila distillery, launched in June of 2002. Caol Ila is the largest of the Islay distilleries by output and so it’s a favourite of brands, independent bottlers, and blends like Johnnie Walker.

Caol Ila 12 Year Old appeals to connoisseurs while also making the perfect entry to the world of peated whisky for newcomers, with its beautifully measured and mellow smokiness and a rich array of seaside flavours. It’s a serial award-winner that works great in cocktails (we recommend a smoky Highball), as well as being a good whisky to pair with salty and savoury foods.

    A good islay dram

A nice tasting islay malt which I take sometimes. But my preferences are still Oban 14yo and Talisker 10 yo.

Shows aging isn't everything. At 12, this is glorious.

N: Sweet BBQ sauce. P: This is the core of all peaty whiskies...love. Watery mouthfeel. A: Peat sneaks in leaving a mild smoke behind before sweet complete the set. More!

    Complex, oily. Great stuff.

Smoky, complex, peppery, oily, with great texture. Superb. I tasted this first on a cruise and had to add a bottle to my stock. What intrigues me is the hints of olive oil on the palate that persist on the long ending.

    Superb. Oily and more-ish.

I tasted this for the first time recently on a cruise and loved it. Just bought a bottle and tasted it again. I get the fruit, peat, smoke but what hits me is the oily mouthfeel with marked olive oil and pepper. The olive oil character persists on the late palate. Like nothing I have tasted before. Great stuff.

    A must

Amazing! So many things going on but in a gentle, nice way. Perfect balance of smoke, just in the background which then comes to the fore. Sweet smell of boiled sweets, peppermint etc as mentioned above and a grwat aftertaste lasting a good amount of time, changing to show an array of flavours. My new favourite (I also drink Bowmore, jura, smokehead and laphroaig, abd this fits in nicely for islay lovers)
