Magnificently well-aged blended grain Scotch whisky – it's a 45-year-old edition of Butterscotch & Vanilla & Toast & A Generation! The name really does all the hard work for us in terms of giving an overview of this whisky's profile. As with younger members of this branch of the ampersand-laden whisky family, it's gushing with notes of creamy fudge, butterscotch, buttery vanilla, and soft woody spice. The extra years in cask have added something extra special here though, enhancing the whisky with a supremely silky, buttery texture, with creamy grain and mellow oak shining throughout.
Vanilla fudge and runny caramel balance sweet, earthy notes of roasted chilli. Buttered rye bread/pumpernickel follows, with Apple Frusli in the distance.
Superbly soft, the vanilla hits first, bringing with it waves of creamy milk chocolate, Cadbury's Fudge bars, and of course, butterscotch. Things remain creamy with notes of crème brûlée, rice pudding, and buttery oak.
Silky sweet layers of toasted oats, golden syrup, and Angel Delight (butterscotch flavour) are supported by a smidge of rye spice and dried orange wheels, all wrapped up with gently drying mellow old oak.
