The folks at Forgotten Gems got their hands on this cracking batch of 24-year-old Burnside blended malt Scotch whisky. The name Burnside is given to a particular teaspooned malt from a particular distillery that we cannot disclose here but ought to be a fun challenge for all you whisky aficionados to research. By adding a small portion of malt from a different distillery, the whisky becomes a blend, and thus, some supremely delicious liquid is allowed out into the world for us all to enjoy at a superbly satisfying price. A release of 67 bottles.
Vibrant green apple backed by creamy grist and vanilla fudge, melted butter, toasted sourdough, and brandy snaps.
Juicy notes of orchard fruits and Barley Sugar sweeties, waves of caramel, and soft, buttery oak. There's creamy rice pudding beneath, and the sweet spice of cinnamon scrolls.
Toffee ripple ice cream joins the gentlest of ginger warmth for the finish, with baked apple pastries and soft toasted oak, and peppercorns creeping far in the distance.
Very extroverted nose with pomelo, semi-ripe apricots and fresh wood. No off notes. On the palate, the young crisp wood is a bit too strong. Overall, the whisky is a little too straightforward, but excellent for the price!
