Bunnahabhain's Stiùireadair single malt pays homage to the distillery's shoreline on the north-east coast of Islay. They used whisky matured in first and second fill Sherry casks, with a leaning towards deliciously coastal malt.
Brine, toasted sugar and caramel-drizzled raisins.
Honey-roasted nuts, cinnamon and clove, with a touch of salt sea too.
Sherried peels and chilli-chocolate.
was it smooth? not very smooth on the palate, needs some drops of water. was ot tasty? Yes !! Sweet, nutty, bit salt , nice complexity bringing all tastes together in a balanced way. I liked it a lot , not hangover next day.
Really nice and great value when on offer. To the reviewer below who is confused whether blended - a whisky is only classed as blended if the casks are from different distilleries.
Excellent dram. It doesn’t say blended on the bottle but the box says the blender has “selected casks with spirit of varying ages from the corner of our shoreside warehouses to create this distinctive dram” so I am slightly confused as to whether it’s blended or not…..
I'm not a fan of this fad for no age statement, fancy named whisky, a lot of distilleries are just filling a void in their sales flogging off young spirit at inflated prices. However, having visited the distillery and being charmed by their previous drams, I gave this a try, the exception to my rule, this is an admirable dram to my taste, one I shall enjoy again.
The only natural colour, non-chill filtered whisky over the bog standard 40%abv you will get for the money. Better off going for the 12 if paying full price but a total bargain at £25 on offer.
