    Bunnahabhain 25 Year Old

In what will be seen as a positive move to whisky connoisseurs, Bunnahabhain have decided to bottle the 25 year old without chill-filtration and without colouring. Presented in smoked oak glass bottle and aged label design.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Sherried; sweet toffee and polished leather followed by cinnamon and the faintest hint of cardamon.

    Palate

Fruit compote doused in cream and caster sugar, this develops into roasted malt, chestnuts and stewed raisins.

    Finish

Demerara sugar, mixed spice, nutmeg and caramel lingering for long after the final sip.

    Overall

Bunnahabhain with twenty-five years aging opens up the spirit to a plethora of rich, dark flavours that stay with the drinker long after the glass is finished.

    Bunna-Habit

Enjoyed at a tasting at an exclusive whisky bar and found it to have a slight iodine smell, maritime water, black coffee, seaweed, burnt bread and subtle pear that is not overpowering. I can see how this is an acquiring taste if your palate is not fond of an excellent malt that is not commonly explored from the Islay region. Nonetheless, it was enjoyed since I enjoy Islay malts and look forward to trying the 18yr old.

The best scotch I've ever tasted

Have to take my title with a slight grain of salt. I've been a scotch drinker for 20 years, but have only been a scotch taster for the last 2. In the past 24 months, I've managed to sample a good 35-40 different "good" scotch brands. I personally lean toward the more toffee/cream/caramel tastes, and picked this bottle based on a recommendation of a friend who knows my preferences. I've had a good dozen of (and bought 6 bottles) different brands that are tailored toward my leaning, and of those 12, this Bunnahabhain 25 best them all, hands down. It has the most elegant nose, you can take a snoot of this and let the flavors form in your mind. The mouth feel is lightly oily, which is perfect for this type, and has a complicated, but not overly changing taste. And oh, the finish! Wow. Unfortunately, the 25 is the first Bunnahabhain I've ever had, so I've spoiled myself, but I'm going to visit their others after this bottle is gone.

    Sulphured

Buyer beware. I bought a bottle in December 2014 and it was unmistakably sulphured and unpleasant to drink.

    The cork broke!

A very rich and intense sherry bomb. Only problem is, on opening for my second dram, the top of the cork broke off! Hopefully this is just a one off, and master of malt are gladly replacing my bottle. Thanks chaps at mom :-)
