The fantastic flagship from Bunnahabhain (pronounced boo-na-ha-ven), launched as the distillery's original single malt in 1979, this Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old. It is aged in a mixture of bourbon and sherry casks and, since a relaunch in 2010, has been bottled at a big 46.3% ABV without chill-filtration or additional colouring. Very impressive. Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old is unpeated, unlike most Islay whisky, but has a beautiful coastal quality complemented by its fruity, light, sweet and nutty character. It’s one of those whiskies that newcomers and enthusiasts alike appreciate.

Fresh, sweet, and a little floral. There’s seaweed, rich malt, dried fruit, camphor, caramel, chocolate orange, and apple poached in cinnamon.
Soft and supple with a nutty, sherried quality leading among vanilla, marmalade, sultanas, and a bright coastal element.
Mochaccino, dried herbs, Christmas cake spice, and a balanced salty tang.

Its really quite nice. A little lighter and less heavy peat, but without wishing to laugh at the nonsense spouted by the previous reviews go for this as your first taste of an Islay if the other are too much for you. Very well crafted taste but more subtle than its peatier cousins. Dont be put off by the pretentious reviews stating their not. Just have a relaxing drink
I was hankering after the Bunna 12 after having bought the NAS Stiùireadair (now purchased twice). My wife bought me the 12 for my birthday and I tried it side by side with the Stiur' just for the comparison. Oh yes.....the difference is measurable; a lovely, lovely dram. It's oh so smooth and pleasurable - I'm trying hard not to keep returning to it lest I empty the bottle too quickly! Consider me seduced.
A little feminine in the aftertaste in my view but this is more than offset by the heady aroma of Brussels sprouts, pineapple and a lingering suspicion of brown Windsor soup. Leafy notes ranging from pear cactus to blue delphiniums are in abundance. Yet in spite of this pretentious flummery, Bunnahabhain has been my favourite whisky for the more than 40 years since I was introduced to it by the ebullient Nick Borst-Smith. Friends offer me other malts and these I accept out of courtesy but invariably, I'm always pleased to get home to the dram which has never failed to provide thoroughly satisfying companionship.
This is my favourite whisky, have been drinking it for about 10 years. I find it to be a smooth drink with no harsh aftertaste.
what a depth of flavour for a 12 year old. A little on the high price for being 12 years old but worth every penny. A bottle that will always be on my shelf. Fantastic sherried dark fruits, long lingering finish with a slight smoke but plenty of dried fruits throughout. Love this single malt.
