The fantastic flagship from Bunnahabhain (pronounced boo-na-ha-ven), launched as the distillery's original single malt in 1979, this Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old. It is aged in a mixture of bourbon and sherry casks and, since a relaunch in 2010, has been bottled at a big 46.3% ABV without chill-filtration or additional colouring. Very impressive. Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old is unpeated, unlike most Islay whisky, but has a beautiful coastal quality complemented by its fruity, light, sweet and nutty character. It’s one of those whiskies that newcomers and enthusiasts alike appreciate.
Fresh, sweet, and a little floral. There’s seaweed, rich malt, dried fruit, camphor, caramel, chocolate orange, and apple poached in cinnamon.
Soft and supple with a nutty, sherried quality leading among vanilla, marmalade, sultanas, and a bright coastal element.
Mochaccino, dried herbs, Christmas cake spice, and a balanced salty tang.
I was given a bottle as a gift and really enjoyed it - a touch of peat but considerably less than most Islay malts. A lovely expression.
just last week i found this scotch at my local store.this new version 46.3 apv natural color ,and no chill-castration is simply superb.this is the way all scotch should be presented,but most of the main stream big house brands worry about cosmetics not true whisky flavor.i will not ever drink another chill-filtered 40%apv colored scotch again,and there is a ton of them out there.the bunna is awsome,great work burns stewart.
Full of aroma and flavour. A very drinkable whiskey. Pleased I added her to my collection.
Bought this on the highest recommendation of ralfy.com. First time he's lead me astry (so I assume that the fault lies with inconsistency at Bunnahabhain!) This malt simply tastes rancid--like a cross between burnt rubber and rotting meat. It's completely undrinkable and I don't even think I could blend the off flavors away.
