This is the third annual small-batch cask strength release from Bunnahabhain. Each 12-year-old edition is an undiluted celebration of the distillery's distinct unpeated Islay whisky character. Master blender Julieann Fernandez selects the casks for these releases from the famous Warehouse 9 herself, predominately sherry casks and a small portion of bourbon barrels. For the 2023 edition, the brand has bottled the biggest ABV yet, a whopping 60.1%, a strength that intensifies those fruity notes for a deeper, richer sip.
Cracked black pepper, creamy vanilla, tropical fruit salad, sea breeze, and stewed plums.
Figs, tinned peaches, nutmeg, toasted almond, salted caramel, and caramalised banana.
Earthy vanilla and stone fruit sweetness linger.

This was Christmas Day (25) in my “drinks by the dram” advent calendar collection of 25ml tasters - never had “cask strength” before - but with a few drops of water - what a magnificent find - dare I buy a full bottle ? Certainly making my “man flu” a lot better !
Absolutely delicious whisky! It’s well made and there’s clearly been some very good quality casks used. Definitely made for slow sipping, and some water to open it up. A banger of a whisky!
On my 2nd bottle of this, always a joy every year around x-mass time, perfect for the occasion, yes it is different than last year's but this is a good thing. Lovely stuff with deep flavors.
Tried this having had a few bunnas and generally being impressed. This was excellent though: a deep, redolent and rich sherry-forward expression that is all the better for the high abv. Excellent whisky from one of Scotland’s best.
Love the smoky/peat taste ;made to unwind.
