    Single Malt

    Port Charlotte Peat Project

An early Port Charlotte single malt from Islay's Bruichladdich distillery, peated to 44ppm. This bottling is a blend of multiple vintages of this smoky whisky and offers an insight into how Bruichladdich may have tasted in years gone by.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

This is a battle between peat and spice. The smoke swirls around a battalion of pepper and cinnamon.

    Palate

The smoke arrives first followed by an immense creaminess on the palate, then notes of sherbet lemon emerge.

    Finish

The finish is fruity with just a hint of soot and nutmeg.

    Overall

This is a whisky for the peat-heads and is a great example of what's coming out of Bruichladdich's peat project.

    Complex peat

Surprise! For a "heavily peated" scotch this is mild compared to typical Islays. I was expecting a peat bomb at 40 ppm phenol, but instead discovered a complex, sweet, spicy dram with just enough peat to satisfy but just enough clarity to allow the many flavors to compete. Light, sweet, smoky, this one stands next to my Laphroaig cask strength as latest favorite.

    Fantastic`

The best whisky I tasted in 2014, beautiful balance between smokiness and sweetness, even better than recent bottlings of Ardbeg Uigeadail. Would happily pay double the price if I could source another bottle.

    Very robust

This is a very robust Scotch. It has become one of my favorite scotchs because of the great flavor and long finish. I love flavor and this definitely satisfies that craving. A splash of water really opens this Scotch up. Also, try the PC Barley if you like this one.
