Bruichladdich
Single Malt
A collectible old release from Bruichladdich, this edition of the ferociously peaty Port Charlotte was aged for nine years in American oak. Master distiller Jim McEwan created this single malt in homage to the whiskies produced in the village of Port Charlotte on Islay until 1929. Just 6,000 bottles were released.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
A smoky, fiery nose with molasses, black treacle, pepper corns, sea spray and coal dust. It's smoky, oily and rich, and even hints at nutmeg and allspice.
Creamy, almost minty, and smoky. Hints of wood ash, pepper and chili warmth. Some bourbon cask influences, as well as citrus zest, rapeseed oil and charcoal.
Rich, intense and oily. Rich warm slabs of peat and butterscotch. Smoky and very coastal on the finish.
I'm not into working out what whisky tastes like, but this tasted amazing. Very sweet, but also very peaty and medicinal. It's probably my new favourite malt.
