Bruichladdich
Scotland
Single Malt
Introduced as the flagship Port Charlotte expression produced by Bruichladdich in 2018, this 10 year old single malt from the Isle of Islay is a lip-smackingly smoky number indeed. It's peated to 40ppm, and drawn from a combination of first-fill American whiskey casks, second-fill American whiskey casks and second-fill French wine casks.
Salted caramel brownie, flamed orange peel, a hearty whack of seaweed.
Oak-y smoke and salty sea air, paired with sweeter notes of Custard Cream biscuits and white grape.
Ginger snaps, rye toast, drying peat smokiness.
I'm really enjoying this. It's well balanced smokey whisky.
Smoky wonderful flavor!
Robust, warming, ideal for cold Nova Scotia evenings. Excellent value.
A great intro for those new to Islay offerings with bags of peaty goodness with out getting into some of the funky taste "aquired" components such as one might encounter with a Laphroaig. Nothing here to scare one off the enchanted isle , just incredible flavourful depth with a warm smokey finish that seems to go on for hours...
I love Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and Coal Ila. Laphroaig 10 not so much. There is definitely something that reminds me of Laphroaig but with a bit more sweetness. It's almost as if you mixed one of the 3 above with Laphroaig. There's no missing that hint of bandaidy medicinal ting in the finish. Overall a good dram.
