Bruichladdich
Scotland
Single Malt
Introduced as the flagship Port Charlotte expression produced by Bruichladdich in 2018, this 10 year old single malt from the Isle of Islay is a lip-smackingly smoky number indeed. It's peated to 40ppm, and drawn from a combination of first-fill American whiskey casks, second-fill American whiskey casks and second-fill French wine casks.
Salted caramel brownie, flamed orange peel, a hearty whack of seaweed.
Oak-y smoke and salty sea air, paired with sweeter notes of Custard Cream biscuits and white grape.
Ginger snaps, rye toast, drying peat smokiness.
Manages to be delicate, smokey, sweet and very enjoyable. No exceptional though.
Sweet raspberries, Fruity vanilla and with a lot of peat in a perfectly balanced mix. This is an outstanding winter dram. On par with Laphroaig Lore and Ardbeg Uiegadail
What a absolute beautiful dram. Really well balanced, sweet and smokey without being over powering. Smooth and oily, really worked it's way close to my top spot
For any scotch under £100, this is the one. I'd previously tried but not been overly impressed by their 'the laddie', but this one is another level. Smokey but like velvet.
This is a nice Islay example, but quite light on smoke and salt compared to others. This is a great option for those who want to try something smokey without going too bold, but a disappointing option for those with a taste for peat-monsters.
