A peaty 10-year-old single malt from Bruichladdich, this is an early edition of its peated Port Charlotte. Unveiled in late 2016, 18,000 bottles were released, and they're rather collectible these days.

Quite fruity - lots of sweet berry notes and a hint of juicy melon. Coastal peat sits in the background.
Vanilla-rich smoke starts to move to the fore, but the blackberry and pineapple notes stick around.
Lasting notes of spicy coffee bean and dark treacle.

I feel sorry for all of the whisky drinkers throughout the world who will never get to enjoy this. This is IMO one of the finest whiskys I have ever had. No fads, no gimmicks, just the art of whisky making personified.
This is not like other Islay whisky, in that its peatiness is an equal to its sophistication and delicacy. Yes it sets your mouth on fire (like all good Islay's should) but it provides a soft almost dry landing when compared to the brashness of Laphroaig or the sweetness of Lagavulin. In my opinion it's the best of both words (with no caramel flavoring). It takes a while to warm too, but when you get it, it becomes irreplaceable.
I was trying to find a replacement for my beloved Connemara Turf Mor 58.2 that can no longer be found and stumbled on this Port Charlotte at the whisky shop. This is a goodwhisky. Rather well peated, lots of differents notes: herbs, honey, peach (even rotten peach), coffee, liquorice... fading into a blend of all of this... Yet nothing really amazing. Like a strong peated Gelnfiddich 12. No wow effect or surprise like with the Connemara turf Mor 58 which is matured only 3 years yet stronger, more surprising, starting with a fresher salty peat, then strong vanilla and chocolate come over the peat. Warmth coming slowly and freeing complex herbal notes that fade into marine..
I am on my third bottle of this whisky.I keep telling myself to save it but alas the weekend comes around and I think ...turn on a movie lie back and savour a great whisky and this is a GREAT WHISKY.
One of my benchmark whiskies for consistently high quality, right up there with the Springbank 10, Talisker 10 and Ardbeg 10.
