Bruichladdich
Scotland
Single Malt
The Bruichladdich brand has created another fascinating and fiery selection and completing the collection from the 2023's releases is Octomore 14.3. Another super-peaty treat, this one was distilled using only locally grown barley malted to a heavy 214.2 ppm and then aged in a combination of bourbon casks and second-fill wine casks.
Toasted oak, fresh vanilla, peat fields, bonfire ash, dried mango, and a hint of coastal air.
Smoky tobacco, blackcurrant, nutty malt, almond flakes, liquorice, and beach bonfire embers.
Spearmint and sea breeze with hints of spiced fruit and black tea smokiness.
Whoa. Somehow, I got a bottle of this bad boy. Arrived last week, outta nowhere. Sadly, it's not the best Octomore I've ever had. That honorific will forever belong the 12 year old Octomore I drank directly from the cask at the Bruichladdich distillery. But this 14.3...? It makes you FOCUS. It's vaguely fruity, but mostly fiery. More lively than most previous editions (of which I've probably tried half). This review is really simply more of a brag: I have the 14.3. Yay me.
