Master of Malt
Scotland
Single Malt
A wonderful bottle of Bruichladdich, bottled by yours truly - that's right, it was bottled by Master of Malt! This 16 year old single malt was distilled on Islay back in July 2002 and filled into a refill sherry hogshead, where it slumbered until January 2019, when we bottled it up at cask strength, with no chill-filtration or additional colouring.
Apple and dried pear, golden syrup over steamed pudding, thick vanilla and toasted almond, then freshly polished wood and light wood smoke.
Toasted barley, brown sugar, vanilla and lemon peels lead. Plenty of earthy spice and oak shavings emerge underneath.
Lasting citrus sweetness and vanilla-y barley.
hi I left home 1965 and went to work for a company called Associated British Maltsters here in Yorkshire . one of the first jobs I did was to help bag Yorkshire Malt for Bruichladdich on Islay it was bagged up in 12 stone double hessian sacks and double tied ., then transported by rail to Scotland. I'm sure its a brilliant malt whiskey but a bit out of my price range.
A great example of the wonderful Bruichladdich spirit (middle-aged), framed perfectly with soft supporting refill-sherry influence. A beautiful dram that is very well-balanced and integrated. A wee bit pricy for 16 years old but an exceptional cask and well worth it IMHO.
The polished wood smell is spot on, in fact all I got was wood and apple. One the best tasting malts on first try in my opinion. Highly recommend.
