Launched in 2012 by Allison Parc, collaborating with a French distiller in Cognac, Brenne French Single Malt Whisky is something quite special indeed. It's made with malted barley grown in Cognac, double distilled, then initially matured in Limousin oak casks before enjoying a finishing period in Cognac casks. Each bottle is drawn from a single cask and is bottled at 40% ABV. Rather cool stuff indeed.
Vanilla flowers arrive on the nose first, paired with pear drops and dried mango.
Brandied cherry and red rope liquorice. More vanilla, a hint of cinnamon spiciness and Nutella.
Chocolate raisins, pineapple and coconut ice.
Very light, a summers evening whisky. On the nose very sweet and fruity. Hints of apples and pears. On the palate liquorice and chocolate. Very sweet and gentle.
A very smooth taste. It's surprisingly nice with a nice sweet aftertaste
This was my number 12 within my superb MoM advent calendar. Not my favourite sadly. Tasted very young and very non descript. Very little nose with unsubtle after tastes.
Don't believe the purist gammons, this is a beautiful drop. I normally go for rich single malts like Arran but this is a nice change, especially for summer. Vanilla notes, sweet but sophisticated. It's a best seller for a reason. Open your mind.
A French single malt. Surely not ! However, look at it's pedigree. Neat or with just a few drops of water to release the flavours. It is mild and soft. Distinct chocolate aroma and taste mixed in with honey.. Very drinkable indeed. Would love to try it at cask strength.
