    Brenne French Single Malt Whisky

Launched in 2012 by Allison Parc, collaborating with a French distiller in Cognac, Brenne French Single Malt Whisky is something quite special indeed. It's made with malted barley grown in Cognac, double distilled, then initially matured in Limousin oak casks before enjoying a finishing period in Cognac casks. Each bottle is drawn from a single cask and is bottled at 40% ABV. Rather cool stuff indeed.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Vanilla flowers arrive on the nose first, paired with pear drops and dried mango.

    Palate

Brandied cherry and red rope liquorice. More vanilla, a hint of cinnamon spiciness and Nutella.

    Finish

Chocolate raisins, pineapple and coconut ice.

    Mixed feelings

Okay I’ll give it to you the nose is artificially off putting and smells like foam banana sweets which in my opinion no whisky should smell like. Once you get over the smell and actually put it in a glass with an ice cube it’s sweet smooth and subtle. Wouldn’t actively order it in a bar bit wouldn’t be disappointed if someone bought me a drink.

    Non!

Whatever it is it is not Scotch. Aside from that it's artificial and really quite nasty.

    Surprisingly good and very different

This is like no other whisky I have ever tasted. It is very different to them all quite unique in fact. When I tried it I was expecting to say they should stick to making brandy but it was quite superb but very different to Scotch. Could be improved if it were finished at a higher ABV say 48 or 50%.

    Bananas

Tastes of foam banana sweets. Sounds so much better than it is

    Banana

Given to me as a present which is sad because it is simply awful. Banana, banana and more banana. Unsophisticated, cloying and unpleasant from nose to finish. We are now trying to work out if it might go in a Manhattan or similar, but dont have very high hopes. There is an old saying, "there is an ar## for every seat". Not putting mine in this one again.
