Launched in 2012 by Allison Parc, collaborating with a French distiller in Cognac, Brenne French Single Malt Whisky is something quite special indeed. It's made with malted barley grown in Cognac, double distilled, then initially matured in Limousin oak casks before enjoying a finishing period in Cognac casks. Each bottle is drawn from a single cask and is bottled at 40% ABV. Rather cool stuff indeed.
Vanilla flowers arrive on the nose first, paired with pear drops and dried mango.
Brandied cherry and red rope liquorice. More vanilla, a hint of cinnamon spiciness and Nutella.
Chocolate raisins, pineapple and coconut ice.
Not at all what I would expect from a whiskey as others have mentioned, but enjoyed it immensely. The tasting notes are absolutely spot on so if that appeals then worth trying for sure.
It's shocking at first as there is zero "pow" ......however after a couple of snifters the truth sets in... this is a whisky for brandy lovers and its GREAT for sipping, my only real reservation is the price, its too expensive for what it is. Needs to be in the 30+ range then maybe. Definitely not a mixer.
Very unusual flavour, reminds me of rum and also like a dry Southern Comfort.
Got a sample of this a few months back and I have to say I was thoroughly disappointed. I’m usually very good at finding the unique characteristics of a whiskey but I simply couldn’t with this one. An overly sweet drink, tastes more like strawberry liquor without any alcohol taste, no burn but no enjoyment at all. A poor introduction into french malts and would highly recommend to avoid this one if you are an enthusiast looking for ‘something different’
Absolutely unique. Don't judge it based on your understanding of a Scotch etc. Enjoy it for what it is. There's nothing quite like it.
