Brenne French Single Malt Bottling Note

Launched in 2012 by Allison Parc, collaborating with a French distiller in Cognac, Brenne French Single Malt Whisky is something quite special indeed. It's made with malted barley grown in Cognac, double distilled, then initially matured in Limousin oak casks before enjoying a finishing period in Cognac casks. Each bottle is drawn from a single cask and is bottled at 40% ABV. Rather cool stuff indeed.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Vanilla flowers arrive on the nose first, paired with pear drops and dried mango.

Palate: Brandied cherry and red rope liquorice. More vanilla, a hint of cinnamon spiciness and Nutella.

Finish: Chocolate raisins, pineapple and coconut ice.

Brenne French Single Malt Whisky Reviews

Mild and different

Doesn't pack the punch of a Scotch but very enjoyable, almost sweet. A firm favourite and worth a try as a dessert drink.

Fair

Awkward whisky. I really couldn’t figure it out. It was certainly not bad by any means. I enjoyed it at times. But usually when I enjoyed it was after dinner or later in the evening. The cognac flavor is very prominent to me. Sweet vanilla forward. Weakfish at 40% ABV but tasted/felt more like 32%. Absolutely no punch to it whatsoever. It was disappointing as a whisky but enjoyed it as an aperitif or dessert drink. Couldn’t handle water let alone ice. Usually I’m happier with a bottle the further I get into it but not this one. Bought it on a whim but wouldn’t buy it again and certainly wouldn’t recommend it.

Deliciously different

Not at all what I would expect from a whiskey as others have mentioned, but enjoyed it immensely. The tasting notes are absolutely spot on so if that appeals then worth trying for sure.

tasty but weak too subtle for many

It's shocking at first as there is zero "pow" ......however after a couple of snifters the truth sets in...
this is a whisky for brandy lovers and its GREAT for sipping, my only real reservation is the price, its too expensive for what it is. Needs to be in the 30+ range then maybe. Definitely not a mixer.

Reminds me of a dryer Southern Comfort

Very unusual flavour, reminds me of rum and also like a dry Southern Comfort.

Disaster dram

Got a sample of this a few months back and I have to say I was thoroughly disappointed. I’m usually very good at finding the unique characteristics of a whiskey but I simply couldn’t with this one.

An overly sweet drink, tastes more like strawberry liquor without any alcohol taste, no burn but no enjoyment at all.

A poor introduction into french malts and would highly recommend to avoid this one if you are an enthusiast looking for ‘something different’

Unique.

Absolutely unique. Don't judge it based on your understanding of a Scotch etc. Enjoy it for what it is. There's nothing quite like it.

Like no whisky I've ever tried

Tastes more like a liqueur than a whisky. Can't argue with the foam banana comparisons. Albeit, I'm sure there'll be someone out there who likes it

Good in it's own way

Very different to your usual whisky but nice. If you're going into this expecting something in particular you may be disappointed as it does have a unique and even sweet taste that is unlike your usual Scotch. Will be adding a bottle to my collection.
