Brenne French Single Malt Bottling Note

Launched in 2012 by Allison Parc, collaborating with a French distiller in Cognac, Brenne French Single Malt Whisky is something quite special indeed. It's made with malted barley grown in Cognac, double distilled, then initially matured in Limousin oak casks before enjoying a finishing period in Cognac casks. Each bottle is drawn from a single cask and is bottled at 40% ABV. Rather cool stuff indeed.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Vanilla flowers arrive on the nose first, paired with pear drops and dried mango.

Palate: Brandied cherry and red rope liquorice. More vanilla, a hint of cinnamon spiciness and Nutella.

Finish: Chocolate raisins, pineapple and coconut ice.

Reviews for Brenne French Single Malt Whisky
Beautiful in body, flavor, mind.
A beautiful sip. You want it to linger in the mouth. I taste not so much pear as peach and yes, vanilla, but not too much. It's like nothing I've tasted before, and I love it. Great body, great flavor, something to share with special friends on special occasions, though I don't think I can stop myself from enjoying it more often than that.

A lovely brandy-whisky.
This is clearly a whisky which divides opinion. Like another reviewer, I had this in my Advent Calendar 2022. It was my favourite. Another reviewer said ‘not Scotch’ of course it isn’t. It’s French. I suspect this whisky will appeal to brandy fans like me, having been matured in brandy casks. I’m no tasting expert and have no sense of smell but, as I get older, I find the heavy, peaty, smoky, Scotch whiskies increasingly unpalatable. I enjoyed this for its fruity lightness.

Different
Very flowers / walking through the park smell on the nose, liquorice on the tongue, overall a nice little drop

Not cheap but worth a go!
Lovely, a real joy and quite different. Echoes of Calvados and very light.

Definitely 5 Stars from me cheers.
A Christmas gift I am pleased to say when I tasted my wee dram it was so delicious not having to pallet smoke or peat yes it is more expensive than I Would usually purchase but so what.

Subtle and different
Starts off 'wow, that's weird'; ends up 'I think I need more of this' 30ml later. Got lots of Calvados off of it personally and thoroughly enjoyed.

Almost a licquer, if you like your whisky sweet smooth light and fruity. Then this is for you.
Very light, a summers evening whisky. On the nose very sweet and fruity. Hints of apples and pears. On the palate liquorice and chocolate. Very sweet and gentle.

A change from the fire of Scotland.
A very smooth taste. It's surprisingly nice with a nice sweet aftertaste

Not for me but no right or wrong.
This was my number 12 within my superb MoM advent calendar. Not my favourite sadly. Tasted very young and very non descript. Very little nose with unsubtle after tastes.

Don't believe the hate
Don't believe the purist gammons, this is a beautiful drop. I normally go for rich single malts like Arran but this is a nice change, especially for summer. Vanilla notes, sweet but sophisticated. It's a best seller for a reason. Open your mind.
