A sherried single malt from Brackla, independently bottled by Duncan Taylor! Distilled in 2011, this single malt spent 13 years maturing in a single sherry cask, yielding 258 bottles when it was opened in 2025.
Overpowered by a faulty Sherry profile. As someone who truly enjoys Royal Brackla's official 12-year-old expression, I was very interested in trying this Single Cask from Duncan Taylor. Unfortunately, this specific bottle (Cask #93900137) did not live up to expectations due to an apparent issue with the wood maturation.Right upon opening, the nose presents an unpleasantly sour, over-oxidized wine note that completely overpowers the distillery's natural fruit character. On the palate, this sharp, vinegar-like profile dominates, making it very difficult to enjoy. The note is so prominent from the start that adding water didn't seem like it would help balance the spirit.Previously, I have had wonderful experiences with Duncan Taylor's expressions of Bunnahabhain 15 and Highland Park 19, which proved to me the high potential of this independent bottler. However, it seems this particular Brackla cask suffered from a quality control oversight. I would personally suggest exercising caution with this specific batch.
