The Vintner's Trilogy from Bowmore showcases the impact of lengthy wine-cask-finishes on the terrific Islay single malt. The 26 year old expression began its maturation in ex-bourbon barrels for 13 years, before being moved over to French oak barriques (that previously held wine) for the remaining 13 years!
Bonfires on the beach (with some grilled pineapple) leading into earthy smoke. Fruity coffee, too.
Chewy raisins and smoked oak, with a whiff of brandied cherry. A coastal tang develops.
Salted chocolate and quince jam.
Loved this ! Bowmore with a difference Half way through this and intended to buy another one as investment or opening for a later date but wondering if there really are 44000 bottles between the Trilogy releases?
Unusual pink tinged deep amber. Delicate wood smoke & coffee, sultanas. Oily chewy palate, oak & more raisins. Cherry liqueur chocolates on palate & finish, with salty sea air.
So far, the best I've had. Yes, it's expensive, but honestly, it's a step up. Without question, 5 stars.
