A 25 year old from the Bowmore distillery aged in American bourbon and Spanish sherry casks. The sherry influence combines wonderfully with the coastal, smoky distillery style to create a sublime aged single malt.
Dark fruits and coastal smokiness. Slightly herbal.
Characteristic peat smoke, cocoa and dry, creamy nuttiness.
Gentle smoke, oak, mocha, hints of prunes.
Visited Bowmore Distillery and had a great informative tour. I tried the 12 year old that is on offer as standard, but then I followed up with the mind blowing 25 y.o. It is the most expensive whisky I have tried and it is worth every penny. Very smooth and has a subtle sweetness and smoky flavour on the tongue. Beautiful odour that didn't really match the flavour, but altogether complements in superb fashion.
Most amazing nose out there. Can't recommend it more. Had a dram at the Yama distillery since Suntory bought out Bowmore.
My wife/mother in-law bought this amazing whisky for me this Christmas. When I poured my small taster, I have to agree with 'The Chaps' on the tasting notes--spot on! I was only disappointed in the smokiness of this dram; it's very nice on the nose, but not so noticeable on the palate. Having many different samples of Bowmore (my favorite probably being the 17yr White Sands), I expected a stronger peat flavor. Really, I didn't take into consideration the 'barrel' flavor being more potent than the peat, which is consistent with a well-aged release. The alcohol is not very noticeable either, but that's typical of a quality whisky anyway. 10/10 for sure after my two small tastings!
Beautiful, complex flavours. So smooth. Love everything about this malt.
The price is abused x) I bought it 280€ ...
