Master of Malt
Scotland
Single Malt
We went wild cask stalking in the Highlands and chanced upon this fine specimen from Blair Athol. The 12-year-old single malt was distilled in 2010, and reared in a refill barrel before reaching maturation in a first-fill bourbon barrel. A herd of 301 bottles join our collection of Master of Malt single cask releases.

Vanilla ice cream, lemon and lime zest, creamy oak, and buttered oatcakes with honey. Toasted oak and vibrant malt are accompanied by soft tinned peaches.
A soft wave of peach melba brings creamy notes of vanilla and sweet, tangy fruit. A touch of tangerine follows, joined by juicy barley and a pinch of chilli flakes.
A well-rounded finish, with creamy malt, sweet fruits, milky tea, and delicate oaken spice drawing off into the distance.
I've never been disappointed with a MoM bottling. This is a lovely subdued well-crafted Scotch with the classic ex-bourbon barrel taste. As I've progressed through the bottle I'm enjoying more and more. A nose variously of straw, silage, grass, citrus, malt and pineapple, with a delightfully complex musky palate reminding me of citrus oil, honey, digestive biscuit, caramel, Granny Smith apple, macadamia nut, Benedictine, macadamia and pine nut. It has a luscious oily waxy feel. Delicious.
Had a couple of these Master of Malt Blair Athol bottles and neither have disappointed. Loads of tropical fruit for me. Rapidly becoming a favourite dram for me. Will not hesitate to buy MoM Blair Athol bottles in future.
