A cracking cask strength indie bottling of Blair Athol single malt, brought to us by the folks at Auld Goonsy's Malt. Distilled in June 2009, this expression spent a dozen years hanging out in a single bourbon hogshead, which was opened up in November 2021 to release a total outturn of 209 bottles.
Honeyed fruit and buttery shortbread, creamy vanilla fudge.
Butterscotch, a hint of toffee popcorn and flaked almonds, sweet toasted oak with rich vanilla.
More sugared nuts, peppery spice picks up with a touch of burnt sugar to balance.

Love this whisky, great depth, oily, sticky, mouth coating and long finish. It’s a gently sweet and complex whisky. Hardly any bite even though it’s a cask strength. I dislike many modern whisky that leaves a bitter after taste. This has no bitterness whatsoever. Will be hunting for more.
