The first of three single malts from Bladnoch released in early 2017 to celebrate the reopening of this Lowland distillery. Although it doesn't carry an age statement, it's said to be made up of whiskies that are a minimum or 8 years old and well as older, rarer whiskies. First fill Californian red wine and bourbon casks were used for maturation, whilst 'Samsara' appropriately enough means 'rebirth'.
Quite concentrated, fruit compote, with plums, vanilla and orange blossom.
A sweet winey start, then drying slightly before more plums and vanilla flavours, some citrus and a malty core. Nicely structured.
Mellow and winey with a spicy, lingering tail.
$35.43 - $116.83
I wasn’t a fan of the previous malts from Bladnoch until I tried the Samsara. It has a complex aroma and a smooth rich red fruit , berries and plummy taste leaving a slight citrus after taste , just gorgeous !
Mellow nose, sweet, fruity especially of dried cherries, hint of orange blossoms. Wonderful mouth feel - quite oily. More fruit owing, no doubt to the wine casks, cinnamon and spice. Slightly salty. Short finish, slightly metallic
We stayed in Newton Stewart a few years ago and the distillary was closed but I found a bottle of this in a book shop up the road (only in Scotland). On the first sip I was blown away, this whisky is by far the very best I have tasted, with its chocolate background with fruits and vanilla. Stunning.
I was given a bottle as a gift. Thoroughly enjoyable. Great neat or on ice. Would highly recommend for those who like the taste of wine-barrel aged whiskies. The shiraz cask adds something special.
Lovely this whisky, the same style Japan whisky. Orange nose
