    Lovely Balance.

Had this special ordered for me after trying the 10yo expression. Im an equal opportunity whiskey drinker but tend to favor peated varieties. This is very peaty. That being said, its not your typical Lagavulin leathery, wet bog, burnt rubber type of peat, instead, its a lovely smokey, ashy type that envelopes the rest of the flavors. IF you can get past the smoke you are greeted with an absolutely wonderful rich balance of brine, citrus, velvety butter, and spice. My only wish is for an older batch. Theres a rich complexity here that I would love to taste more matured and rounded out with those lovely musty wood tannins that only come with time. If you're a fan of Bruichladdich Port Charlotte or Peat Monster from Compass Box, you would find much to enjoy with this Benromach.

    Seriously peaty...

I enjoy a classic Benromach 10yo, really like the lightness of the Organic one. But the peaty one... you can smell it from 10 feet away. Seriously peaty. Way too peaty for me. Probably enjoyable for the fans of Islay tipples.

    Damned fine

Fascinating peated Speyside - to my taste finer than most Islays which can seem a tad heavy handed - Ralfy awards 90 points and waxes lyrical. What is really interesting is this whisky changes in the glass, its almost a different spirit after a few sips & you can really appreciate the first fill bourbon casks. Initially quite smokey and bright - yet finishing like an old style barely peated highlander. For the price I don't think you will find better quality. Similar to an older Ardmore - but nothing like Ardbeg or Talisker.

    Take a bow.

Happily and surprisingly pleased with this little find. A great idea although easily dismissed, a peat smoke speyside - actually brilliant - complex enough to stop and make me really think - light and lemony yet connects with the obvious of the great Islays. Not too subtle and aftertaste is of a top quality - it's not lost. Tempted to light up a Partagas 4 serie D!!
