Distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2016, this peated Benromach (67ppm) was matured in first fill bourbon barrels and was bottled at 46% abv. Sounds pretty good already, right?

Reviews for Benromach Peat Smoke 2006 (bottled 2016)
2006/2016 / Buy it if you can find it.
If you like smokey whisky without medinical or meaty notes this is the one. Complex whisky with camp fire smoke with fruity sweetness and a oily mouth feel. The finish is smokey sweet with a bit of spice, job well done.

The Nose; The Smoke is odd, it’s not like any other peated scotch I’ve tried - it’s more woody & soft. Strong Vanilla laced with fresh strawberries come into play; strawberries being another element i’ve not found in any other dram. Theres apricot & Seville orange zest too - the overall aroma is very delicate. Theres a faint Ham note too, not too dissimilar to a Ledaig 10 year.

The Taste; White pepper (not Talisker like however - far more mild) day old pineapple, sweet strawberries & apricot’s again. White chocolate. Theres an excellent mouth watering whisp of smoke draped in vanilla - It’s almost like a burnt vanilla panacotta or white chocolate creme brûlée post blow torching! Benromach themselves state a tobacco element to this scotch, I can’t find it personally.

The Memory; Medium-long finish. The smoke sits at the base of the aftertaste with the dessert fruits finishing the experience. That broiled Ham returns still very soft though.
