The excellent 10 Year Old expression from the Benromach Distillery is a marvellous single malt, which is matured in a classic combo of first-fill bourbon and sherry casks. Packing plenty of dried fruit, fresh vanilla and smoky notes, it's approachable but flavoursome indeed.
Dry, barley, big on malt and oak. Dry pine, fruity. A tad spirity. Sweet spices after a time and a hint of puckering prune from the sherry cask and maple fudge.
Barley, slightly herbal, a little fruit, grassy. Big on malt, ground ginger.
Mouthwateringly bittersweet. Ginger, dry sherry, almost hoppy after a while.
This is a great entry level single malt. The nose is Christmas pudding and dark fruits with a grassy, hoppy palette, but also a good degree of smoke. A smooth, decent mouth-feel as well. For a budget whisky this is really good, and I'd definitely recommend.
PANCHORI
I’m no expert on whisky but I accidentally came across this one and I found that I love it.
For me this is my go to whiskey. It's not a complex dram by any means but all the basics are there; Malt, barley, sweetness and spice and all perfectly balanced. At this price I'd struggle to recommend a better Speyside.
This expression from Benromach is delicious. For the price there is no beating this dram. There is some complexity with sherried and smokey notes and it is well presented at 43%. This is a must try bottle for thise who are starting their malt journey and experts aloke!
