Single Malt
Benromach
Scotland
The 10 year old from Gordon and MacPhail's Benromach distillery. This was matured for the first nine years in 4/5 bourbon and 1/5 sherry casks before a year in sherry casks.
Dry, barley, big on malt and oak. Dry pine, fruity. A tad spirity. Sweet spices after a time and a hint of puckering prune from the sherry cask and maple fudge.
Barley, slightly herbal, a little fruit, grassy. Big on malt, ground ginger.
Mouthwateringly bittersweet. Ginger, dry sherry, almost hoppy after a while.
A great whisky, its maturity belies its 10 years of age and the sherry finish has done wonders.

Disclaimer: Not a whisky for beginners. This is not a glenfiddich/glenlivet style Speyside malt. It isn't easy going, mellow, fruit bomb. What it is: For the more experienced malt lovers, this is the most sublime Speyside malt at this age bar none. Slightly peaty (though not much), fruity, rich (and is it ever!), and incredibly complex for its age. Has a very good balance between richness and sour. One to let open up in the glass for 10-15 minutes before delving into, and one to nose for a long time. If you like the complexity of fruit, toffee, and some herbal notes, you can't be disappointed. Simply the best at this age for Speyside.
There were a few to choose from but I'm so glad I went for this. Having tried many malts in the past this ranks right up there. It's everything - rich full bodied with a taste of salted cured meat, fudge/toffee, Bovril, a slight tinge of sherried sweetness, and all enveloped in graceful smoke. It has the clean, crispness of Glengoyne 15. On some sips it's like an Islay, on others a Spey. Seriously - you'll be so glad you bought this one.
Delicious! Best bang for ur buck period. Sweet, fruity, spicy and that like hit of smoke to put it over the top.
To me it is VERY heavy on the peaty side, hardly mentioned in any reviews. Did I get a bad bottle? Not pleasant to me at all. If you like peaty this is it.
A whiskey that is pleasant to the palate, warming and tasteful with the sherry cask influence, yet still retaining the Speyside peat. For me a glorious whiskey that is sinful if missed.
