Benriach The Original Ten

A fab 10 year old single malt from Benriach, released as part of a new core range launched in 2020. The Original Ten was matured in a trio of casks - bourbon barrels, sherry casks and virgin oak casks - imparted a bounty of honeyed fruit and softly toasted oak notes, alongside just a hint of smoke (if you're looking for something a little more peaty, you'll want to check out The Smoky Ten, too!). Top work from Benriach master blender Dr. Rachel Barrie and her team!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Nectarine, honeydew melon, vanilla sponge with cream and jam and a touch of cedar.

Palate More baked goods - now croissants dipped in milky coffee and cinnamon rolls. Still packs plenty of creamy orchard fruits notes, plus a waft of earthy peat.

Finish Nutty malt, vanilla pod and apricot remains.

Reviews for Benriach The Original Ten
A walk Into the woods
Very forward aromas as in a fresh strong cut into a piece of exotic wood, mystery and then quiet.
Also upfront on the pallet. Caramel toffee and exotic fruits.Warm.
Spicy finish as it would be expected nicely coordinated with the early notes, and then fruity and warm again. Long balanced and smooth

An all rounder, unlikely to disappoint, unlikely to light too many fires
Smells honey sweet with a touch of glue and a bit of slightly sour oak.
Taste is all that, with a modest burn expanding into the finish, which is long.
Pretty simple and well balanced, it's easily drinkable if also a little forgettable.

Excellent 'Entry' Single Malt
An excellent 'entry' single malt. All the sweet fruit flavors with enough 'punch' to be interesting and make you want to explore more of their range. Which I will.

Excellent value malt
Very good cask management and blending done here. Bravo, Rachel Barrie! An impressive entry level release. This malt is head and shoulders above something like Glenmorangie 10 or Glenfiddich 12. I consider Benriach 10 a perfect option for daily sipping, but not more than that. You really get what you pay for here, optimal bang for the buck.

Wonderful part of your progression in the Art of Malt
A stunning whisky, ideal as a follow on after say starting on Glenfiddich and then finding the extreme peaty Islays too strong
