Launched in mid-2018, Benriach's Temporis is a 21 year old peated single malt which has been matured in a quartet of cask types - bourbon barrels, virgin oak casks, Oloroso casks and Pedro Ximénez casks. The result is an intense, unique expression from Benriach, packing a full-bodied flavour profile.
Meaty malt with a touch of BBQ char, joined by spiced currant buns and waxy orange peel.
Rum-soaked dried fruit, more orange peel, new leather and oak-y smoke. A touch of blueberry tucked away, too.
Five-spice, slightly floral peat, pear and prune.
Excellent mature whisky, loved the peat
Didn't enjoy this very much, found the peat to be overwhelming. There's a little sweetness on the palate but you have to search for it. Not a well balanced whisky at all. There are a lot of core range peated whiskies out there that are, in my opinion, better value for money. Highland Park 18 and Lagavulin 16 and, if you really want to up the ante peat-wise, then Ardbeg Corryvreckan, are all more to my taste.
I agree on the tasting notes, but I also get a slight touch of aniseed in the palate. Love the orange peel with that campfire smoke. Day 3 from the premium advent calendar. My favorite so far.
