Bell's Original is a smooth, well-rounded whisky with a hint of smoke. It's perfect for enjoying neat or on the rocks.
Bell's whisky is the United Kingdom's most popular blended Scotch whisky, this is the standard release of Bell's Original, with notes of fresh herbs on the nose with cereal sweetness on the palate.
Quite soft and gentle. Malted barley and hints of cut herbs and a fresh floral note. Cereal and grist with a little honey.
Quite smooth, medium body. Barley and cereals with nut oils, hints of wood and spice.
Short with notes of fruitcake and smoke.
I’m 60 and experienced. Forget good malts and better. These are in their own ‘league’. However for a mass market blended scotch there is nothing better than Bell’s. I’ve tried everything. All the supermarkets, including the so called 8year olds, all the premiums Chivas etc. The new ones, Woodsman and clones. Bell’s doesn’t mess around with fake vanilla, extra sugar, over caramelisation, pretend smoke. It’s remarkably pure. No silly 3 barrels maturation, multiple distillation or medals from who knows who. At a very reasonable price, frequently discounted for a litre. Currently it’s the best blend in the market. Long may that continue In these fast changing times!
I was a long time Bells drinker but about 10 years ago the flavour changed and is disgustingly like coal tar soap of years ago or the smell of creosote.why
The nose is light with faint peat smoke with caramel and vanilla nuances. A litttle bitterness is obvious due to reused oak casks used for maturation. The palate is in correlation with the nose with a lttle spiciness. Finish is short but pleasant.
I dont like it at all. Of the jug whiskies both white horse and j&b are nicer. Harsh and bland at the same time.
It is currently on offer at Waitrose for £14 for a 70cl bottle. I bought a bottle this morning to make bramble whisky (by soaking blackberries in it for a month or so) and kept back a small amount to drink neat. It was delicious, a nice nose, smooth taste and more than a hint of malt on the palate. I will definitely buy it again at that price and put it in a decanter as my ‘house whisky’ and keep my single malts for high days and holidays.
