    Bearface Triple Oak Canadian Whisky

Bearface is a Canadian whisky that has bravely endured a process coined as elemental ageing out in the Canadian wilderness! Having initially matured in bourbon barrels, the single grain whisky was then transferred to a selection of French red wine and virgin Hungarian oak casks, which were locked up in a repurposed shipping container out in bear country. The extreme climate of the region means temperatures can fluctuate greatly between night and day, providing interesting conditions for the whisky and the wood to interact.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Buttered corn and vanilla open the way for sweet, tannic oak and a touch of drying spice.

    Palate

Butterscotch, and vinous, jammy fruit notes mingle, with aromatic oak and toasted peppercorns in the distance.

    Finish

The spices develop towards the end, with fragrant dried chilli bringing some warmth.

    Tastes of Arse

Fortunately I didn't pay full rrp for this. It tastes of peanuts... and arse, which we couldn't even disguise in a boozy cocktail, which is what it got relegated to. Tipped ¾ of it down the sink. Bottle looks quite cool though. For context, our usuals are Four Roses Single Barrel, Peerless, Earle Rare, Kopper Kettle Bonded, Michter's Sour Mash, Sazerac Rye and Colonel EH Taylor

    Not sure

The flavours are definitely different but then I do mostly drink scotch so not sure what I should be tasting. It’s by no means bad but I only had a 3cl sample so haven’t been able to spend time with it. Would I buy a full bottle? Probably, but if/when the price goes up then it would be a no.

    Do not buy

Ethanol not at all pleasant. One of the few whiskies that I have poured down the drain.

    Interesting at the Price

I bought this simply on the name. I thought I’ll give it a go. Do you like Gentleman Jack and the like? If you do, then you will like this. If you are seeking an intellectual or philosophical drink that you can muse on to impress your Whisky friends, don’t bother. If you want a really decent, neat “sippin” Kentucky Bourbon style Whisky, I found it an enjoyable decent go to. In fact I’m drinking it right now; neat, one large ice sphere, I’m not unhappy.

    Very decent ?

Slightly sweet butterscotchy flavour with a pleasant lingering finish
