Since 2002, the Balvenie distillers have dedicated one week a year to distilling whisky with 100% peated barley, resulting in the Peat Week bottlings! This is the second release in the series - a 14 year old single malt distilled in 2003, showing off hearty helping of rich smoke.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Toasted oak with a hint of heather, stroopwafel and coffee, flamed orange peel and dry cedar.
Butterscotch, roasted apricot, a light touch of floral malt, grows enjoyably spicy as it develops.
Earthy peat lingers alongside runny honey notes.

I am definitely a speysider in my tastes and have not developed a taste for Islay. This offering from Balvenie is excellent. It is probably at the upper limit of my ppm tolerance for peat but with this the other tastes also come through very well. It really is a great balance between the soft smoke of peat and the nice fruit/citrus notes that come from the oak on this one. Even on the nose - the first smell is smoke, but after that it fades to the background and the nice citrus notes come through - similar with the palate. This is a great Scotch!
Gifted on my Birthday 10/30, 2019 and the best Scotch I had to date. Can't find it now so I missed out.
Absolutely love this bottling...went back to pick up a second!
The first release of peat week was much better. This one is a bit too peaty, not quite balanced. If it's peat you're after, there are better and cheaper alternatives.
I wasted $100.00 on a bottle. Absolutely horrid. 12 and 17 year are always outstanding however, this tasted like poison and ruined the cigar pairing. I’m a huge fan of the double and rum casks however, this is just rancid. I’m curious if I received and I’ll-after bottle.
