A beloved and now retired member of the Balvenie range, created by the distillery's malt master, David Stewart. Founder's Reserve combines a marriage of 10-year-old sherry and bourbon cask matured single malt.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
I used to drink this regular and since they replaced with the Signature and latterly the Double wood I really have lost intest in the Balvenie. This was great value ,great taste and a go to Balvenie sadly the recent incarnations are over hyped and over priced and lacking the real Balvenie character.I bet distillers hear this all the time but really our opinions should matter but financial matters take the lead ? Another nice dram diff company was Strathisla 12 replacement awful.Enough said.
This was the first bottle of Malt I purchased in 1989 on a scuba diving trip to the Isle of Bute. The bottle was an unusual shape with an off centred spout. I felt really lucky to choose such a quality dram first time out. I was very disappointed when it was discontinued and now it's moved well out of my price bracket. The 12 yo DW took its place for a while but as someone has already said that has now become very inconsistent.
A favourite for the past 20 years. One of the best 10 year old whiskies ever. Getting ever more difficult and expensive to get hold of. If you have not tried it yet, don't miss out.
I have 2 Bottles of Balvenie Founders Reserve 10 year old .I dont know which one to drink.lol
Last week I was stranded at home during the most epic flood in history. On Sunday 3 masked men broke into my house and then escaped in a red canoe (I'm in Canada). The next day, a neighbour in a green canoe came up to my house with a bottle of Balvenie. I assumed it the 12yo Doublewood and didn't pay much attention, but gladly drank the dram offered. Wow! The nose. The mouth feel. The taste! Knowing how inconsistent the 12yoDW has been lately, I asked how long ago he bought the bottle. He thought probably 15 years. I figured that's why it was sooooo good, but then he turned the label around to reveal that it was indeed the 'Founder's Reserve - 10yo' My God. We just went through a massive disaster of a flood, but I'm almost praying for rain next year if it means my neighbour will bring that bottle back for another go! So beautiful.
