The Balvenie 25 Year Old Single Barrel Traditional Oak, was introduced to the Balvenie single malt Scotch whisky range in 2014. Released in batches, each bottle is one of no more than 300, drawn from a single cask, all of which are refill American oak casks. There will be slight variations between batches, but the casks selected by Malt Master David Stewart for this release are chosen for having the richly spiced, sweetly honeyed character you'd expect from 25 year old Balvenie single malt aged in American oak. This means there is an overarching consistency between batches.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Outstanding nose. The taste doesn't match imho olfactory expectations. Ask more from a dram costing by itself as much as all the food of a good meal...
Have tried a few good ones, but I always come back for this. Very complex, beautifully composed whisky, well worth its price. Going to get a new bottle, just need to get finish my no ‘13’ first. Many thanks!
Fantastic! Yes it is very oaky but extremely unique. I've got north of 50 Whiskey's in my collection and whenever I finish a big project around the house, all I want is that smooth, oaky unique flavor of the the Balvenie 25 that nothing else I've tasted comes close to. This tastes nothing like other Balvenie's that are finished in other casks so don't get this if you're looking for that. If you're looking for a complex whiskey that is extremely smooth with a very strong unique woody flavor this is the whiskey you're looking for.
Recently had this at a Balvenie tasting event of single barrel bottles. Included in the list was 12 Single Barrel, 15 Sherry cask, 25 Single Barrel and the Tun 1509 Batch 3. The winner of the night was definitely the Tun 1509 Batch 3. I didn't enjoy the Tun 1509 Batch 1 but the batch 3 had a rich, dark and brooding flavor. The 25 single barrel had fresh oak on arrival. Soft vanilla and medium spice ushered in more fresh, piney wood flavors. The wood isn't overly "oaky" as some may have been saying, but it was just more woody flavored and wood forward ala the fruit forward notion in the wine world. A not so tannic, fresh, young (not by age but by flavor) wood flavored single malt whisky. I'm glad I got to taste it at a free local tasting, because there is no way that I would spend $424 for such a singular noted spirit. There are much better whiskies out there for a better value.
Very nice smooth complex original flavor profile and very long finish. I liked it but its a bit Oaky for me. If you like oaky you will love it. Probably because its aged in tradititional Oak barrels for 25 years ? ...ya think? lol. At this price I would pass but under $250 its well worth it.
