Like the famous 12 year old expression this Balvenie has been matured in two types of cask, the key difference this has been given an extra five years of cask ageing. A great release for 2012.

Warm Acacia honey and green apples on the nose leading to warm winter spices, vanilla and honeysuckle on the palate. The finish is gloriously long with notes of vanilla and honey.
I can see why people rate this. However it wasn't for me. I got the vanilla and strangely some chocolate orange. Unfortunatly I felt the oak was overpowering in the finish and had a burnt toast note to it. There is cheaper, better whisky out there!
Nose: The most tepid...lemon...yes lemon...nose...17 years old...really. Palate: This is truly terrible. Like being face punched into your Grandfather's spitoon. After: It might have died, but maybe it the palate that distracts.

Great vintage;a drop of tap water brings it out.One for the lovers of the malt. A sample is not enough to appreciate its quality.
