Like the famous 12 year old expression this Balvenie has been matured in two types of cask, the key difference this has been given an extra five years of cask ageing. A great release for 2012.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed info and/or photos just get in touch!
Warm Acacia honey and green apples on the nose leading to warm winter spices, vanilla and honeysuckle on the palate. The finish is gloriously long with notes of vanilla and honey.
Elegant and bursting with flavour! Unbelievable that people have given this whiskey a bad review!!! Are you serious? This is absolutely superb and a pleasure to drink. Makes me want to pour a glass just thinking about it!
Absolutely fantastic!
I have been sipping Balvenie 10 and 12 for 20 years, dozens of bottles. This is the best. If I knew an erudite word with more syllables that described "best," I would use it. A drop, a small sip, a liquid layer on the tongue, DoubleWood 17 is an extreme pleasure in my daily life. Dr. Henry
Priced a bit higher than the 16 triple cask, 14 carribean rum cask, this Balvenie is also very similar. Vanilla, honey, mild sherry, low ABV. However, this one is a bit complex. Layered - spiciness and fruitiness. Balvenie according to me is a bit overpriced for its age and ABV. 46-48% ABV could have helped in a bit more intensity. Good whisky but I would not buy again.
You'd get more flavours from licking an oak table! No flavour...no finish and totally forgettable...for nearly £90 on some websites!I will never buy Balvenie again...should have bought Glenfarclas 17 or Glengoyne 18 instead...great flavoured drams!Big difference between smooth and mellow and incipid and watery!Yuk!
