Like the famous 12 year old expression this Balvenie has been matured in two types of cask, the key difference this has been given an extra five years of cask ageing. A great release for 2012.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed info and/or photos just get in touch!
Warm Acacia honey and green apples on the nose leading to warm winter spices, vanilla and honeysuckle on the palate. The finish is gloriously long with notes of vanilla and honey.
A beautifully balanced whiskey... some people saying it's not worth the money over the 12yr but it really is! The 12 is great for the price where this is just a pleasure all round. I have whiskey at double this price and they rarely match it. I'd love to find another whiskey this good for this price. Well done Balvenie, a masterpiece indeed!
I am mostly a bourbon person, but I bought a Balvenie sampler and this doublewood 17 year was one of the samples. All of the samples were good, but this one was the best scotch I have ever tasted. I had to go buy a whole bottle after that sample. Not sure why the guy below with the low rating is complaining with such a low rating. If you knew that sherry casks impart a sweetness that you wouldn't like, why buy it? Seems kinda nutty that you are taking your buyer's remorse out on a fine scotch that you already indicated is not a style you like.
I am a big fan on the 12yr balvenie and after my 3rd bottle thought I'd spend a little extra and get the 17 Year. Overall its good. Has a deeper flavour to the 12year, even more smooth (if that's possible) and the finish is longer. So with all that, it's a solid 4/5. The price is fair for a 17year I think, but against the 12year it's very hard because that is a beautiful one and for value I honestly think your better getting the 12year. But if your happy spending a little extra, the 17 is a beautiful one
Wonderful tasting single malt, one of the best I've ever had, it delivers on every front, Balvinie at its finest.
This is nice enough, but not worth extra cost over the 12 YO. A pleasant dram.
