A terrific single malt from The Balvenie. This Speysider was initially aged in traditional oak casks before it was finished in casks which previously held Caribbean rum, imparting some extra sweetness and warmth to the whisky. In fact, to create it, Balvenie malt master David C. Stewart made his very own blend of West Indian rums, filled it into casks, and then eventually replaced the rum in said casks with Balvenie's whisky! The fabulous result is a well-rounded whisky with notes of toffee, fruit and vanilla.
The aroma is rich with notes of tropical fruits, namely passion fruit, and creamy toffee.
Sweet vanilla forms a creamy palate with notes of apples and mangoes with a hint of orange in the background.
The finish lingers with a vanilla-focused character.
Mouth-coating and fruity with superb balance, this is an excellent new release from the chaps at Balvenie.

The Balvenie is the rock and roll of Speyside. This doesn't let you down.
I love the Doublewood and I'm looking forward to trying the 12 year Single Barrel next trip to Ontario since we can't get it in Montreal. So I was looking forward to trying the Caribbean Cask 14 year old and was not disappointed. I don't get the poster who calls this "rum". This is a more delicate and subtle dram great for sipping late in the evening while watching a movie. And the finish is sweet...
Smooth and flavorful. No bite.
I really wanted to like this. I love my scotch, and I love my rum: surely the perfect combination? However I have to say that this is not a well-balanced single malt. Any hint of tropical or Demerara sweetness is overpowered by the 'tang' of rum that arises from the moment the liquid touches your tongue. 'Phleugh'! I applaud the endeavour and experimentation, but in my opinion it just hasn't paid off. Balvenie expressions continue to disappoint for me...
The taste is amazing and the feel is so smooth--an adventure for the palate. Vanilla and sweet tropical. I purchased Balvenie Caribbean Cask shortly after I tasted it as a suggestion in an establishment more geared to the masculine. It's great neat or with a small cube of ice. Well worth the price.
