A terrific single malt from The Balvenie. This Speysider was initially aged in traditional oak casks before it was finished in casks which previously held Caribbean rum, imparting some extra sweetness and warmth to the whisky. In fact, to create it, Balvenie malt master David C. Stewart made his very own blend of West Indian rums, filled it into casks, and then eventually replaced the rum in said casks with Balvenie's whisky! The fabulous result is a well-rounded whisky with notes of toffee, fruit and vanilla.
The aroma is rich with notes of tropical fruits, namely passion fruit, and creamy toffee.
Sweet vanilla forms a creamy palate with notes of apples and mangoes with a hint of orange in the background.
The finish lingers with a vanilla-focused character.
Mouth-coating and fruity with superb balance, this is an excellent new release from the chaps at Balvenie.

I tend to drink the heavily peated Lagavulin and Laphroaig, but sometimes you are just not in the mood for peatiness and this is a really nice departure. Firstly, it is smooth as silk with a nice long finish and the vanilla adds quite a bit of interest. The rum is not overwhelming. This is definitely one to add to the collection and the pricing translates to great value.
One of the very best
I prefer 15 years single cask to this. Of course the price :)
I have heard 2 people tell me that this stuff is really good so I went ahead and bought it. 56 bucks is not a bad price if it is really as good as they say and I'm a fan of the Doublewood. This, however, is not all that impressive. It's got too much vanilla and it is too sweet. I mean what is this supposed to be, "Captain Morgans Spiced Scotch"? Am I supposed to mix this with coke and make a scotla libre? I'll give it 2 stars because it is smooth.
Great value at the price point, super roses colour. I get a touch of the old rum and raisin ice cream on the nose, similar to a hibiki, initial vanilla and passion fruit, although don't find the finish as long or as complex as some have noted. Very enjoyable and priced well.
