Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask

Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask

Balvenie Caribbean Cask Bottling Note

A terrific single malt from The Balvenie. This Speysider was initially aged in traditional oak casks before it was finished in casks which previously held Caribbean rum, imparting some extra sweetness and warmth to the whisky. In fact, to create it, Balvenie malt master David C. Stewart made his very own blend of West Indian rums, filled it into casks, and then eventually replaced the rum in said casks with Balvenie's whisky! The fabulous result is a well-rounded whisky with notes of toffee, fruit and vanilla.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: The aroma is rich with notes of tropical fruits, namely passion fruit, and creamy toffee.

Palate: Sweet vanilla forms a creamy palate with notes of apples and mangoes with a hint of orange in the background.

Finish: The finish lingers with a vanilla focussed character.

Overall: Mouth-coating and fruity with superb balance, this is an excellent new release from the chaps at Balvenie.

Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask Reviews

Lots of toffee, caramel, dying embers...lovely creamy coating. Very enjoyable.

Did not like this.

16th November 2020

Absoulutely incredible whiskey, it tastes wonderful and its so smooth it disapears, i would buy 2 at a time from now on

13th November 2020

Very Smooth, Delicately Sweet, more so after

This is excellent, smooth, very smooth, delicately sweet, getting more sweet with the aftertaste, highly recommend.

23rd October 2020

Liked it better when it was cheaper.

The price is a bit off putting now for a day to day whisky but what the heck you only live once, maybe.
I won't go on about nose, palate etc', there are plenty of descriptions of this beautiful golden liquid for you to choose from.
It is it is the one and only whisky my wife will drink and she even pulled a face at The Macallan 14 year old, she even steals a sip or two from my glass.
The tastes are subtle and probably better suited for an experienced whisky drinker. It is a whisky that gives you a gentle hug rather than a kick in the trousers.

21st October 2020

So smooth

My all time favourite whisky. Simply love it.

12th October 2020

Great cigar pairing scotch

Superb scotch that is easy to drink with the sweetness of rum and great pairing with spicy cigars as the rum spice kicks through. Paired this with a chocolate and peanut butter truffle with an 1926 pardon 80 yr and just sublime.

20th September 2020

Great Whisky

Just got my second bottle just a great whisky

11th August 2020

Ooops, I just bought another bottle.

Birthday present. One of the nicest whiskey's I've had and now I need another bottle to share with my friends.

Smooth, deep, creamy, with sweet toffee.

My kind of whisky

26th July 2020

Disappointing. Very disappointing. Was really looking forward to this. Perhaps I was looking forward to it too much. Gutted, absolutely gutted. The Balvenie Doublewood 12 years is, in my opinion better. And cheaper. Glenfiddich Solera 15 years is very good.

17th July 2020

Great whiskey worth every penny.

Tried a bottle of this once and I have no good enough excuse as to why I've not bought another since. Amazing whiskey!

5th July 2020

Great stuff

This has been my go-to whisky for years now. Purists may not like the sweetness from the rum casks, but its such an easy to drink dram. This is what I introduce to my non-whisky drinking friends, and they all love it. Highly recommended.

30th June 2020

The best Balvenie?

My wife and I did a tasting between the 12 and 17 Doublewood and the 14 Carribean Cask with my current favourite, Glenmorangie's 18yo as a comparison. both the 12 and 17 had slight sulphurous notes to the nose but we're far more drinkable than Macallan's Sherry Wood which I can't bear. They were both rich in nose and palate with strong flavours of dried fruit and sherry with the 17 being far smoother to the taste, unsurprisingly I guess, but our favourite was the 14 Carribean Cask whose nose was fruity and exotic, and palate infinitely drinkable. Not the most complex whiskey, but for Speyside, it's wonderful and a great addition for any cabinet whereas the two doublewood are just too similar to many others like the Aberlour 12.
That said, if you can stretch, the Glenmorangie 18 still rules over them all for us. Go for that instead.

21st June 2020

Tick tick tick

A very good expression - highly recommended.

13th June 2020

Toffee vanilla and fruit. Excellent stuff

I agree with the evaluation of this wonderful whisky. It is a little short on the finish and needs time and a drop of water to lose the slightly unpleasant tanin taste that is there too.

12th June 2020

Not rich in flavour

Smells good. But not really rich on palate.

8th June 2020

We loved it. Took my first bottle to a moderate size dinner party thinking I’d come home with half of it. It was a hit and I returned home with none. Purchased a couple of bottles as gifts. Suspect we’ll have two more gentlemen in love with it.

5th June 2020

Top drawer.

This is the first proper bottle of Whiskey I’ve bought having initially bought a sample dram of The Balvenie Triple Cask 16 years aged (which I liked).. but having seen this bottle at £50, at half the price of the sample deal bottle, I jumped at it as I’m a bit of a rum fiend. I’ve got to be honest, I’ll be doing well to make this bottle last a month. It’s taken me years to like whiskey, but being into dark sipping rums has probably helped my tastebuds. This Balvenie, in my novice opinion, is simply delicious.

Excellent Scotch

1st June 2020

Great whiskey, the muppets knocking it, clearly have no idea about whiskey.

1st June 2020

A really good malt whisky with a nice aroma and nice creamy and vanilla taste.

21st May 2020

Excellent, superb

It is a tremendous Scotch aged and a fine flavour for the price. Refined and a gentleman’s after dinner draught.

6th May 2020

Quite possibly my favorite "no smoke" Scotch whisky.

What a wonderful single-malt. Just sweet enough but with no smoke or peat I myself am surprised by how much I love it.

30th April 2020

Bought in a sampler and not bad at all. Smoother and more flavour than than the 21 year old Portwood which suprised me.

Definately got the rum and fruit but it was a bit short lived - would've like the rum and fruit to hang around a bit longer. Pleasant enough and between this and the 21 YO PortWood I'd chose this everytime.

13th April 2020

Awesome taste, very smooth nothing bad to say

4th April 2020

Rich flavor with a a welcome softness

I absolutely love this whisky! At this price point I expect an exceptional whisky and this one delivers. Rich, full bodied flavor with a softness that makes it a pleasure to drink. I bought a bottle to share with friends at a recent professional conference and it was a big hit. Try this, I think you'll like it.

Sterling Whisky

Honeyed liquor. Premium Scotch. Well worth hoarding.

16th January 2020

This is a wonderfully sweet and tropical dram. Not a bad batch at all!

Not a bad batch afterall!

My new go to. Simple as that. As a newbie in the whisky scene, my palate is still developing and most single malts taste the same to me. But This... This Balvenie is so unique. When I put the glass to my nose - Wow. I was instantly transported to a tropical island. So rich, so warm, sweet and fruity. I can't pick out all the flavours due to being, well, a noob but there are some smells and flavours that remind me of somethings I've tried in my life.

The nose is rich and sweet. Toffee, is what I can smell. There's other notes in there that i just cannot pick out, it's probably what the chaps at MoM say it is - Passion fruit. It never burned my nostrils, it was a pleasant nosing experience.

Unique and delectable. It's the kind of whisky that I could spend ages nosing because it's so damn good!

The taste is, quite simply, the best I've encountered so far. Soft, smooth and gentle, It makes itself known but it's never overly aggressive and bold like some Islay peated malts that, figuratively, are like the military doing a breach and clear on your palate. At 43% ABV, there's hardly any burn at all, it's a burn that subtly reminds you: "Remember, you're drinking whisky here, so don't get pished" very pleasant.

Vanilla and fruits are definitely present and make for a superb partnership. I can also detect a chocolate pudding note in there.

The finish is very sweet. Vanilla focused, I'd say. (Totally not copying the chaps at MoM) all jokes aside, it is sweet and there is definitely a prominent vanilla note there. It's long enough to be saying goodbye but never overstays it's welcome. Quite wonderful.

Being honest, I can see this being rather underwhelming to experienced whisky drinkers who have a fondness for heavy and hard hitting flavours from Islay but for those who are occasional drinkers and those who are experienced drinkers who don't mind a softer, gentler malt now and then, give this a try and if you're disappointed, I'll buy your bottle, lol.

I drank this dram neat over the course of 25 minutes and it was wonderful. I don't think water is needed but I can imagine it will accentuate the tropical notes even more with a drop o' water.

A magnificent dram. Sweet and tropical. It doesn't get much better than this for me... At the moment ;)

4th January 2020

Please, please don't be a bad batch, Balvenie...

Oh, erm, this is a bit awkward. I bought myself a bottle of this for Christmas as the reviews were really good and I'm very fond of sweet whisky.

It seems to have 3 very bad reviews in a row all on the 22nd of December; a few hours after I bought it, it seems. I do hope this isn't a bad batch but I suppose I'll see. I'll be very disappointed if it is a bad batch as the whisky, in the way it's described, sounds delicious (Caribbean Cask - It sounds wonderful, very catchy and is definitely a unique name)

The bottle, label and package design is very classy and eye pleasing but the contents are most important; a pretty bottle isn't worth £50. Hopefully I won't regret spending the money on Balvenie Caribbean Cask as I had another whisky I had been eyeing up - Lagavulin 16

5* for optimism and faith.

24th December 2019

this can not be a great seller, can it?

very boring,
In the category of flavourless and strong, this scotch is second only to the cheapest Canadian whiskeys money can buy. I did not pick up on any of the subtle sweet notes, or tropical elements others describe. What I taste is a strong alcohol carried on notes of 10 dollar handles. Pass the Canadian Mist so I can get this awful taste from my mouth.

22nd December 2019

don't waste your $$$

terrible, don't waste your money

22nd December 2019

not great

22nd December 2019

First review here!
I really liked this whiskey which I tried at a bar. Then I bought it and it’s great - creamy and smooth!

3rd December 2019

Great choice.

First purchase with unique cask influence. Pulls through the vanilla overtones and provides for a smooth experience from nose to finish.

2nd December 2019

Very Disappointed

Broken down transit van on the M25 in the rain on a Monday morning first day back after Christmas . White spirit, water, TCP.
Where the accolades for this whiskey come from I have not idea it’s awful. If it were chocolate it would be dogs drops. I’ve kept the remaining half a bottle in case I need to clean any paint brushes.

23rd November 2019

The whisky that fooled you

This whisky has sure got people fooled.

This is whisky to avoid at every turn, at every cost.
The price can range from 9seemingly) reasonable, to outrageously high. Though any amount is too much for this horrendous whisky. Why am I so harsh on it?

Well, let's say you purchased a bottle of this, you have had it open up for say 6-8 months, theres still half a bottle left (hopefully) in its price at this point. Here is what you get compared to most any other non-smokey-ish/speyside whisky.

The arrival, the moment it hits your tongue, it's .. alight.. not bad, not great, certainly not interesting, just .. alright. Then it builds into a somewhat malty mid palette, which is subtle, not terribly interesting, but shows potential for about half a second until it just goes kerplunk. It doesn't even continue the buildup in the mid where one would expect it to. It just falls into perhaps the most, how do I say this, annoying and frustrating finish I've ever experienced in a whisky. Nothing can stop the monster that is this whiskies finish. An utterly atrocious finish. No rum to even be detected, perhaps only through the power of suggestion.
It is a flat, lifeless, high priced whisky that just dies right on the palette and leaves so much to be desired.. in perhaps the likes of what would be a "good" whisky (ahem Oban 14).

I reckon, because of the high price point, the 14 year age statement, and the hype, those who fell victim to purchasing this abomination of a scotch, dearly want to believe they made a good choice. If /when you watch reviews on this whisky, if you pay attention, you'll notice every reviewer of this whisky will say "i love it", "it's one of my faves", "this is a high end luxury whisky" etc. yet, whenever they try it, they're never blown away by it. The wow factor in this whisky is so far removed, to make this dram into a worthy dram, it would simply have to become another dram.

I would recommend everyday of the week and thrice on Sundays to go for something like the Oban 14 if you're even contemplating the Balvenie 14, what a waste of money that would be.

16th November 2019

Very smooth and no sour after taste, the bottle shape is pleasing with the opening unusual

Smooth as silk with a pleasing to the eye shaped bottle, tastes classy.

2nd November 2019

5 stars

It’s like being enveloped by a warm blanket, composed of toffee, warm baked bread, caramel, even maple syrup. The perfect dram on a cold night.

2nd November 2019

What you would expect it to be and more.

Simple and Delicious the sweet rum cask is very prevalent but not overpowering.

30th October 2019

One of the best drop

Very nice and smooth with a fruity taste.

4th October 2019

Excellent, Speyside with a twist, nice present from the Hob

I enjoyed this one, tasted sweetness, honey, fruit and vanilla with an interesting spice, whisky for me is never the same dram twice, I like to taste the difference between this one and the next... I broke my own rule and had a double!

23rd September 2019

Incredible scotch especially given its price

So for me, it's all about the bang vs buck equation. I don't mind parting with £'s if I get the value from it. There are few whiskey's I have tasted (and I have tasted some very expensive ones) that I think deliver better than this one. I think the Bain's comes close in terms of value (it's cheaper but not quite as good but which gives it equivalence)....and there is a point of diminishing returns. This is an incredible whiskey and one of my favourites, and is probably the best given its price I have encountered.

12th September 2019

I’ve tried two bottles of this now, and whilst each bottle has been drinkable, how much rum comes through has varied enough from bottle to bottle to put me off buying another. Shame really, as the first bottle I tried had a strong rum character and was delicious. The second one not so much.

8th September 2019

Absolutely my most favourite whisky. The flavours bring back memories of sea side summers and campfires.
Just pity it’s not available in local shops. Just online and cost more than when I first started drinking it.

8th September 2019

You get what you pay for

This whiskey is especially great in letting you fully appreciate why the 21 yr-old madeira or portwood finished cost thrice or five time times as much...

31st August 2019

30th August 2019

Really good

Amazingly smooth and delicious taste. It doesn't burn, really good sipping

22nd August 2019

A cracker !

One of the best malts I've ever tasted. Strong fruit and toffee / burnt sugar on the nose with hints of vanilla and spice. Warm rich fruit on palate with slightly honey sweet but clean aftertaste. Very easy to drink and very enjoyable. One one my favourites.

16th August 2019

Aqua Vitae

Scent is of caramel pudding and melted brown sugar. Tastes of ripe banana and pineapple then comes fudge and toffee. Quite a lot to chew on. The finish is pleasant with honey flavours omnipresent. Outdoes the the DoubleWood in my opinion but might be too indulgent for those who prefer peaty harsher whiskies but should be fine for Bourbon drinkers. The Caribbean Cask is a great whisky to have on hand for those days when one needs a soothing tonic at the end of a long day. Also quite affordable for anyone working on a tight budget.

12th August 2019

Great aftertaste

What a great whiskey at a great price

17th July 2019

Lovely smooth taste

I'm a lover of a good single malt. I was introduced to Balvenie only 5 years ago and it is now my new favorite. Lovely smooth taste, I enjoy it on the rocks with just a wee splash of water

13th July 2019

WTF do you expect with reviewers who don't know their whisky?

A previous reviewer said:
> WTF do you expect with whisky aged 14 years in rum casks?

This whisky was actually matured for 14 years in American Oak (ex-Bourbon) casks, and then "finished" for a number of months in casks had been previously filled for a period of time with a blend of rums selected by Balvenie.

30th June 2019

Really lovely whiskey. The after taste hits you with the Carribbean notes. One of the best whiskies I've trued

29th June 2019

Better than it’s more expensive brethren

Much better than the more expensive 12, in my opinion. The slightly sweet rum flavor makes a gentle entrance at the end and helps smooth out this top scotch. A must try!

7th June 2019

splendid example of happines and tranquilty

reminded me of my saturday afternoons around grandmas, if u catch my drift

31st May 2019

Nice dram.

This is delicious. The rum cask adds a fruity sweetness which is lovely.

26th May 2019

Very Good. My wife likes it.
Soft and Smooth.

18th May 2019

Definetly buy it!

The best whiskey I have bought to date!

17th May 2019

A dram for all seasons...

Just lovely. Vanilla, creamy, a little sweet - the perfect all year round dram. Whisky is a natural product so the depth of the rum flavour can vary depending on the cask but Balvenie dont let their quality standards slip. Enjoy on a hot summer night

16th May 2019

My Favourite whisky

This proved to be a winner, at a whisky club night we had 15 top quality whiskeys to try blind . Out of 10 samplers 6 had it as best 4 in the top 3 ( double wood was in the top 3 for all 10 . Balviene is a great whisky.

7th May 2019

Fabulous Scotch

Fabulous scotch! This one of my favorite drams. This scotch is very smooth with excellent tones of rum and a great finish, leaving you to want more. Careful, once you start you may not be able to stop.

27th April 2019

Tumelo Ralinala

Splendid. Smells of butterscotch and Christmas pudding. Tastes of toffee honey caramel and syrup. Quiet a lot to chew on. The nectar lingers pleasantly so. For those who prefer peaty whiskies I wouldn't it. But for those who have a sweet tooth as I certainly do it's glorious. An exceptional whisky. Contender as well as a great alternative to Bourbon.

23rd April 2019

WTF do you expect with whisky aged 14 years in rum casks?

Caribbean Cask 14 is not a consistent product year-to-year. When it's 'on' - which to my taster means when the rum cask note is subtle and adds just a little 'je ne sais quoi' or 'mojo' ... it is sublime to those who can appreciate that note.
When it is 'off' - to me there's that toffee note that just makes it taste like a Highland whisky. Not bad, good even- but distinctly not what I expect from Balvenie.

10th April 2019

Excellent taste

1st April 2019

In a class of it’s own!

Fantastic, extremely smooth with an Oak Aroma and a hint of Vanilla makes it and outstandingly single malt. Very pleasing to the palete and no After bite or residual bitterness.

17th February 2019

A good deal

Have him indulged me, since he really gives something taste. It is definitely worth it :)

8th December 2018

The best

With 20 Whiskys on the table side by side with your Quality whisky from all over the world this came out top on a whisky club night. Really nice.

18th November 2018

I don't know why I bought this. I had a lovely old Balvenie at a bar and sought some more and, at the shop, liked the call of this particular bottle. Perhaps I was tipsy, i neglected to recall that I don't particularly like the flavour of rum, so its influences here are a backward step I think.

20th October 2018

Doesn't work for me

As someone else said, it does taste a little like a Scotch poured into a glass that had previously been used for rum. I did like the spiciness, there's enough of that to keep me interested in finishing the glass, but overall I found the flavours to be competing with one another rather than working in harmony. The finish was smooth, but the initial taste was too busy for my taste. Glad I tried it but unlikely to do so again.

2nd September 2018

Tasty !

The rum brings a lovely savor to this scotch.

28th August 2018

Get it online for best value

This is an awesome combination of medium weight Scotch with vanilla, orange, rum spices, and toffee. Mixes well or enjoy on the rocks.

6th August 2018

Sorry, this doesn’t work for me...

This tastes like someone poured a nice single malt balvenie into a glass coated with common rum. I love rum and enjoy scotch, but together this does not work for me. An interesting experiment, but I may end up using it to make some high end cocktails...

31st July 2018

Lovely stuff.

Usually I prefer port wood or sherried malts but this one finished in rum is pretty tasty. I really don't get the drizzled honey or mute swans feet and buzzard feathers type descriptions some people have to say about my national drink but this dram rocks for the money.

16th July 2018

A truly fine sip of malt that will bring a smile and a joyous surprise

I have been a religious enjoyer of Scottish single malts as long as I can remember. This is truly something special though and I was asked to try it for the first time at my local pub “Shenanigans in Hollywood Florida. A cultured scotch drinker will love the smoothness and mellow finish, a very very amazingly smooth malt with No sharp edges anywhere. I gifted my bar tender handsomely just for the introduction to this joy of a malt.

5th July 2018

Excellent Choice

One of my favorites. Smooth and simple either on the rocks or straight up. Enjoy.

23rd June 2018

I drank the whole bottle

I drank the whole bottle

21st April 2018

31st March 2018

Clean Complexity

Smooth, clean with nice summer like finish. Fruitcake and rum cask made it pleasant.

24th March 2018

A nice change

Very nice...smooth...nice finish...good single malt that is a nice change from the regulars..

20th March 2018

Light and flavorful

Balvenie is one of my favorite distillers, from Doublewood to the excellent Port finish. I did not taste that much of the rum, but it does have some nice tones of honey and vanilla. It also is very smooth and very light with a moderate finish. It is good but there are ones that I like better for less. Give it a try but I would not buy a whole bottle until you have tried it.

16th March 2018

Horrible. Bland, not worth the price.

Horrible. Bland, not worth the price.

3rd March 2018

YAR! One of favorites.

This is one of my favorite whiskeys, sweet where it counts, a little spicy and uncomplicated, it's got depth and balance. Carmel, fruitcake, sweet tea, fresh cigar, dried leaves and fig. Great after dinner, nice, no water.

27th February 2018

Excellent whisky

A new favorite. This scotch is so beautifully drinkable. I’ve made new whisky fans by giving them a swig of this one. Absolutely superb.

19th February 2018

Has potential...

After the great reviews I was looking forward to this bottle . It's ok. Nice balance, good flavour but it doesn't blow you away as other reviews led me to believe.

Everyone has different taste but for me the rum finish didn't add much and it's just an average, easy drinking whisky . Nice but wouldn't order another.

22nd January 2018

Clean and sweet

Great Smooth Introduction to Scotch. Typically a bourbon guy and this a great way to enjoy a new taste. Highly recommend if you want a clean and sweet finish with low peat.

3rd January 2018

Really good my new favorite Balvenie Rum/Whiskey oh my!

30th December 2017

Excellent mellow whiskey

This is my first ever bottle of whiskey, as recommended to me. I am normally a gin person but I have surprised myself at how much I have enjoyed this bottle of whiskey. I’m no connoisseur but I have fallen in love with the taste. It’s mellow but takes your breath away all at the same time. I think this is a fine whiskey and worthy of the price.

28th December 2017

Not worth it

It's not a bad whiskey, but it's definitely not worth its money.

11th December 2017

Maybe it's rum cask

But I didn't get this one. And I'm a fan of Balvenie. Balvenie 12 Doublewood and Sigle Barrel are all richer than Caribbean cask. Everything is my opinion, of course.

7th December 2017

By far my favourite single malt, great flavour and is so smooth

18th November 2017

Really nice, but a bit too sweet for me.

5th November 2017

I have to say this is disappointing. I have tried a lot of different single malts and have loved most of them. I also enjoy fine rums. Balvenie is normally one of my favorite distilleries, but this does not have the complexity I have come to expect from them. I did not get any of the citrus or cream notes others mention. There was also virtually no peat, and it just seemed to have a mild, short bitter finish. I think most regular scotch drinkers would be happier with some of Balvenies’ other offerings.

7th October 2017

One of the best

One of the best

24th September 2017

One of the best

Got two bottles of this for the price of one for me it's one of the best

19th September 2017

I'm not a scotch drinker. Until now. Vanilla, citrus, LONG finish, sipping whiskey, not much peat. I had a glass after dinner at one of my usual haunts - neat, club soda and lime chaser -- and I could have finished the bottle had it not been for the hour.

16th September 2017

Good, but wouldn't recommend

Tried a dram of this, not really my thing. Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask doesn't know if it wants to be a scotch or a rum. Palette is enjoyable though very light and smooth. Vanilla and citrus tastes overwhelm just about everything else. Finish is very vanilla that comes on very strong and dissipates slowly. I'd say overall it is more vanilla and peat than fruity notes.

10th September 2017

Extraordinary and complex flavor

My favorite of all brands so far.

4th September 2017

Wow. A new King is born!!!

The only scotch I ever liked was the 12 year McCallan because it was less smoky and peaty than old school scotches. Until now...14 year Carribbean Cask is better!!! More complex, rich and smoother. Wow. A new King is born!!!

3rd September 2017

Excellent. Dare I say the best scotch I've ever had!

21st August 2017

Rum cask comes through nicely creating a smooth balanced ring with lovely nose. For under 50 quid, buy and enjoy.

20th August 2017

Good Lorde!!

20th August 2017

One of my favourites, recommend this one 100%

28th July 2017

Sex in the mouth - yes it really is that nice!

This is the best whisky I have ever had, so much so I have another bottle in the cupboard as I worry about running out of the stuff. Very quaffable, very very quaffable!!!!

24th July 2017

No disappointments with this drink

A fine sipping whisky. As described above and more!

6th July 2017

Not a massive whisky drinker, but this year I am expanding my horizons. Really enjoyed this one! Only tried a hand full, hands down my favourite so far!

23rd June 2017

I received it as a gift.....and it is truly wonderful! Not a scotch drinker but this bottle is one of the best whiskeys I've ever had....will definitely keep it in my cupboard from here on

14th June 2017

Pretty Good

This is one I haven't bought because $80 seems a little expensive for a 14 year but I got this as a gift recently and I am definitely enjoying it. Very creamy with lots of tropical fruits like coconut, mango and banana good finish as well I just wish it were a little stronger. Still pretty happy with it but I think I like the 12 year single barrel more. The Sugarbear

10th May 2017

Amateur scotch aficionado, this bottle is awesome. You can definitely taste some rum, nose is mellow creamy toffee, palate is medium pear with with some vanilla hints and finish is toasty rum.

6th May 2017

Great drink if you can find it for under 80$ locally.

Solid. I love the finish and lingering spice on the tongue that makes you want more.

15th April 2017

Wonderful drink from a dedicated Bourbon Drinker

I hated Scotch...
Until I tasted this. Now, nothing compares. Yes. It is that good.

27th March 2017

Makes s interesting gift for special birthdays

A stunning mixture of flavours which never fails to ignite your tastebuds.

26th March 2017

The best I ever tasted

18th March 2017

Quite Enjoyable

Flavor, aroma and warmth to my body and soul are quite enjoyable.

27th February 2017

I cant get on with this.

I cant get on with this. Smells like Gentleman and Honey Jack Daniels weirdly. But as an addition to the collection it makes a welcome change and a good talking point regarding the Rum finish.

23rd February 2017

Quite simply my favourite drinking whisky only trumped by the 17 yr old and glenfiddich gran reserva. Both are significantly more expensive

11th February 2017

like the smooth flavor

Had three mini bottles for Christmas found the Caribbean the best can't afford a full bottle have to wait for next christmas

14th January 2017

My son and soon to be daughter in law got me a bottle for Christmas. I had never had this before, but certainly was not disappointed. Very smooth. Adding this to my top favorites. The only problem is it is about gone and now I have to buy my next bottle.

6th January 2017

A good honeyed Scotch

I am convinced that whiskey house in 22 categories either a honey flavored category or a peat flavored category. Although not my favorite Scotch this is an excellent example of the honey category, with no surprises and warm and pleasant finish.

1st January 2017

Nice Scotch

Thoroughly enjoyed this scotch! Rum cask finishing really gives this a unique flavor

25th December 2016

Very smooth

Very smooth with a subtle sweetness and mild bite. Will buy again

25th December 2016

Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask (70cl, 43.0%)

Lik doublewood i smaken men mycket tamare, nästan som att dricka vatten, smakfattig!, Doublewood alla dagar i veckan jämte denna!

15th November 2016

You need a hair of water to bring out the oils and taste but the smoothest I've had in a while.

11th November 2016

Very smooth... one of my favorites!!! Not as smokey or peating as Ardbeg or Lagavulin!! Will not disappoint even a seasoned veteran of scotch... enjoy!

8th November 2016

It's a scotch with a hint of rum

I love this scotch because it's exactly what it's supposed be , it should taste like scotch With a hint of rum , you can taste the rum at the finish , for the people that are disappointed don't forget you bought whiskey not rum that should have a hint of whiskey , I'm giving four stars just because it's a little bit weak

28th October 2016

Huge disappointment

A big disappointment to me...weak palate and finisch. Thankfully i only bought a sample.

27th October 2016

Smooth and Mild

I am still a little new to scotch but have been very fortunate to taste some of the finer brands available. Through my job I'm able to do a favors for a couple of liquor reps and in return get bottles of basically anything I want. This is by far my most favorite so far. I got a bottle recently and it's half finished already. This 14 year is very smooth and has a great but subtle finish. For the price it really is a winner.

16th October 2016

Great combination of flavors

After trying this I bought 3 more bottles! It has an outstanding mouth complexity that lingers allowing you to savor various notes. I like quality rum, and there is only a unique hint of it in this Scotch, giving it a unique and quality appeal. I proudly serve this to friends.

11th October 2016

in love

This beauty explodes after touching your tongue and is really the giving kind. The palate is super pronounced while the finish will give you extended and wealthy vanilla to enjoy and even reminds of sugary dates.

11th October 2016

I was skeptical about having a Rum infused scotch. I am NOT a fan of Rum. I was delighted to be proven wrong. This was a very smooth Scotch., not a peat monster. I will buy this one again.

10th October 2016

Be appreciative

What constitutes a great malt? Good question, so why not use a rum cask to add a difference and make it a success. I dislike rum as a drink on its own but applaud Balvenie for this little beauty, Slainte!

6th October 2016

This is now on my favorite's list. Although rather pricy ($135.00 Canadian), It was worth every penny. A very delicious Scotch.

3rd October 2016

Adequate, not great

Not up to the mark. A good buy for the price, but misses the round body of rum that I was hoping for. As both a rum and scotch drinker, I would not buy again.

21st September 2016

Absolutely Wonderful

One of my first "Upper End" purchases, and it definitely left me wanting for more. Incredibly smooth with a fantastic aroma that doesn't sting, but invites you in. I'm about to order another bottle now!

15th September 2016

Smooth! Like skating on fresh ice of a maritime pond. A wonderful experience to enjoy alone or with friends.

5th September 2016

Very smooth, complex, slightly sweet. A pleasure to drink

17th August 2016

Love this Rum finished Balvenie 14 yr

I'm glad to hear that Balvenie made this rum cask finished 14 yr expression a permanent addition to their US lineup! This scotch is very interesting, very smooth and drinkable. There arent many distilleries finishing in rum at the moment, and for such a reasonable price. Vanillas, caramel and toffee sweet flavors. This one goes to the front row of my whiskey cabinet.

3rd August 2016

Very good

The rum casks add lovely raisney toffee notes to this whisky also hints of apples and toast. Sweet but not too sweet.

1st August 2016

Pirates Scotch

One of my favorite Scotchs to serve my friends who or skeptics. In my collection at all times

17th June 2016

Great scotch.

Never drank scotch , more of a bourbon guy, but got it for Christmas. I don't taste fruit, toffee, or any of the things they claim but I liked it enough to get another bottle when the other ran dry. this is really good.

1st May 2016

Good but not great

Tastes good but not up to the mark smells smoky and Peat. Smooth but very lite.

27th April 2016

Not your ordinary scotch

Most notably the pleasant aroma which accentuates the taste makes this a fine selection. Indeed an exciting whisky and at the price point is well worth it.

24th April 2016

Wondetful Smooth Scotch

I have only recently started drinking scotch and never even dreamed I would enjoy it. I have tried a lot of different single malt and this one is by far my personal favorite. I like it even more than a lot of the higher priced ones. Excellent! You won't be disappointed.

20th April 2016

my go-to evening dram!

1st enjoyed this whilst staying at Cameron House, Loch Lomond 2 years ago and now always have a bottle in the house. Not a traditional taste but very smooth and drinkable - great value and a lovely drop!

15th April 2016

Rum and scotch married beautifully

Nose is full of surprises and when you take that sip it is extremely delicious. A little water helps bring out some of the other run flavors hidden in this wonderful dram. Must say this is a very nice expression.

26th March 2016

Amazingly smooth with vanilla being a great finish. Haven't been able to beat it for the price

23rd February 2016

The Balvenie rock and roll

The Balvenie is the rock and roll of Speyside. This doesn't let you down.

21st February 2016

A subtle late night dram

I love the Doublewood and I'm looking forward to trying the 12 year Single Barrel next trip to Ontario since we can't get it in Montreal. So I was looking forward to trying the Caribbean Cask 14 year old and was not disappointed. I don't get the poster who calls this "rum". This is a more delicate and subtle dram great for sipping late in the evening while watching a movie. And the finish is sweet...

21st February 2016

A wonderful sip...

Smooth and flavorful. No bite.

21st February 2016

Expensive Rum!

I really wanted to like this. I love my scotch, and I love my rum: surely the perfect combination? However I have to say that this is not a well-balanced single malt. Any hint of tropical or Demerara sweetness is overpowered by the 'tang' of rum that arises from the moment the liquid touches your tongue. 'Phleugh'!
I applaud the endeavour and experimentation, but in my opinion it just hasn't paid off. Balvenie expressions continue to disappoint for me...

18th February 2016

The taste is amazing and the feel is so smooth--an adventure for the palate. Vanilla and sweet tropical. I purchased Balvenie Caribbean Cask shortly after I tasted it as a suggestion in an establishment more geared to the masculine. It's great neat or with a small cube of ice. Well worth the price.

18th February 2016

Really good stuff

12th February 2016

what a treat! Wonderfully smooth balanced delicious. Good mouth feel.

12th February 2016

after a few months sipping bourbon and islay malts it was a very refreshing dram. soothing the palate but complex it presents a totally different experience. good stuff!

11th February 2016

First Taste Wows

This is an excellent whisky. It is sweet with a lot of vanilla and caramel flavor like you'd expect from a good rum. It also manages to carry all the amazing complexity I have come to expect from The Balvenie. It is exactly as advertised.

3rd February 2016

My favorite from Balvenie

Better than the DoubleWood and a bit more expensive, but worth it. Vanilla is dominant with a nice bit of spice in the finish from the rum casks. Another one of David Stewart's masterpieces. A must try. You won't regret it. Goes down so smoothly, the only problem will be making this bottle last.

23rd January 2016

Price Point Perfect

At the price, it's a good compromise between the Balvenie 12 and the company's higher priced bottles in the 17 and 21-year marks. It also gives comparably priced popular Scotches — Macallan and Glenlivet — a run for the money. It's a good all rounder with exceptional cream, honey and tropical flavor.

21st January 2016

Very good

I didn't notice the overly strong rum taste reported by some of the other reviewers -- or maybe I just didn't mind it. Really nice to sip. Very smooth.

2nd January 2016

Love it

Slightly in the sweet side but also full of flavours. A good buy

30th December 2015

A nice surprise

There is a good bit of rum flavor to this but not overpowering and I think a nice compliment. It is a bit on the sweet side and it definitely leaves a hint of the tropics, cream and a bit of coconut to my palate. Very enjoyable and exceptionally smooth. Regards from Colorado USA.

26th December 2015

Like all Balvenie scotches, this doesn't disappoint. Great for sipping. Add a small teaspoon of water, and the complexity & finish will linger on for hours.

25th December 2015

Let down

Love the double wood, bought this with high hopes but was left little let down. It's nice but it's not brilliant, and not as nice as the double wood.

24th December 2015

Wonderfully warm

My neighbor surprised me with a bottle last night as an early Christmas present. It truly was worth shoveling his driveway for the surprise! The vanilla is pronounced, but my favorite is the ever so slight nutty fruit aftertaste. Finishes well, and is one of my favorite.

24th December 2015

Great hints of vanilla; lovely sipping and a smooth aftertaste. Now one of my favorites.

24th December 2015

Delightful dram

Got this as an early Christmas present to myself for being such a good lad this year. What a treat! Beautiful nose of toffee and popcorn; the palate is sweet and is obviously heavily influenced by the maturing in the rum casks, but this whisky wins most points for its smooth vanilla finish which lasts for weeks. Absolute whopper. Get some into you chaps, and Merry Christmas!

19th December 2015

We keep coming back.....

My cousin and I started out years on a journey to discover Scotch Whisky, at least from a Speyside perspective. We started at JW Black Label and worked our way around the region and many distilleries., up and down the price scale. We've a wee bit more to experience, but we keep coming around to The Balvenie Caribbean Cask, by far our most enjoyable yet.

18th December 2015

So glad I picked this up

Yes, it's pricey and yes, it has a definite rum kick that may not sit well with scotch purists but WOW, this dram is an absolutely wonderful sipper. Super smooth with a strong vanilla punch and soft honey background. I would repurchase in a heartbeat.

16th December 2015

Primo single malt

3rd December 2015

Terrible never again

Is you want the best most expensive rum of your life then buy this. If not buy anything else. I love this as a rum but hate it for the price for a single malt. 20$ spreyside is way better then this. Taste like a rum with a hint of scotch. Terrible and I love their double cask

29th November 2015

I used to drink scotch switched to vodka, taste this scotch and now I'm a scotch drinker again its so good

26th November 2015

Balvenie 14 year Caribbean cask

21st November 2015

A nice departure from my old standards

I tend to drink the heavily peated Lagavulin and Laphroaig, but sometimes you are just not in the mood for peatiness and this is a really nice departure. Firstly, it is smooth as silk with a nice long finish and the vanilla adds quite a bit of interest. The rum is not overwhelming. This is definitely one to add to the collection and the pricing translates to great value.

19th November 2015

One of the very best I've ever had

One of the very best

16th November 2015

Ok only

I prefer 15 years single cask to this. Of course the price :)

13th November 2015

If I wanted rum I'd buy rum

I have heard 2 people tell me that this stuff is really good so I went ahead and bought it. 56 bucks is not a bad price if it is really as good as they say and I'm a fan of the Doublewood. This, however, is not all that impressive. It's got too much vanilla and it is too sweet. I mean what is this supposed to be, "Captain Morgans Spiced Scotch"? Am I supposed to mix this with coke and make a scotla libre? I'll give it 2 stars because it is smooth.

12th November 2015

Easy one to wade into

Great value at the price point, super roses colour. I get a touch of the old rum and raisin ice cream on the nose, similar to a hibiki, initial vanilla and passion fruit, although don't find the finish as long or as complex as some have noted. Very enjoyable and priced well.

2nd November 2015

This is a terrific whisky. Loads of rum infused sweetness up from with soft finish. Can't recommend highly enough.

31st October 2015

Pricey but good

10th September 2015

Much better than expected

At this price point, you honestly won't find a better single malt. Orange peel, toffee and apple crumble on the nose. I drink mine watered one part whiskey to two parts water. When stretched out this way, the sweetness is the first thing that hits you. Then a loam soiled oakiness. The rum is there, to be sure, but as a back-note, not as the main event. Vanilla? Yes, some. Not being a fan of vanilla, I'm relieved to note that it doesn't dominate. Woodsmoke, damp tweed, dark chocolate, mulberry, they're all in there, somewhere. Complex, yet unfussy. A real whiskey drinkers dram.

27th July 2015

Why not buy a good bottle of rum? Why spend so much on a Scotch for hints of rum? I think Scots have lost their identity. Scotch is a Scotish drink and it shouldn't have any outsiders budding in. God Save the Queen.

15th July 2015

Very Good

A lot of cask influence- I can see why they are going for this as a finish rather than doing the entire maturation in a rum cask. Lots of those lovely rich flavours you get in a rum, it's a really robust rum flavour like you might find in a good quality Jamaican rum. The whisky itself is not entirely lost, you are still getting some of that distinctive Balvenie character. Good stuff!

4th May 2015

So very good

Enjoy all Balvenie offerings. This one is excellent. I find it easy to drink and really enjoy the cream, vanilla and honey characteristics.

3rd May 2015

You could, you know buy a bottle of Rum...

The rum influence is tremendous and it is a very nice dram. Try doing a comparison to a normal Balvenie and a rum with at least a decade of maturation like a nice Appleton or Mount Gay - you will immediately see the similarity!

2nd May 2015

A new favorite

For years now, my favorite scotch has been Lagavulin 16. I just tried this tonight with my wife, and wow, what a revelation. I have always appreciated and enjoyed other scotches and bourbons without the strong peat characteristic of Islay malts, and I'm honestly in the mood for something in that vein outside of the winter months, and this REALLY hits the spot in that regard.

I'll have to see how my feelings change over the course of the bottle, but so far, this is a new favorite for me. Not supplanting the Lagavulin, but more like they are #1a and 1b rather than 1 and 2.

One thing that both the wife and I noticed immediately, which is (to me) conspicuously absent from these reviews, is the warm surge of sweet honey flavors that rise up toward the end of that wonderfully lingering finish. We both tasted before reading any reviews/notes, and we both are getting STRONG honey vibes on that finish rather than the vanilla I'm seeing sprinkled throughout these reviews. So someone tell I crazy, or is anyone else picking up on that?

A definite treat, and this bottle will be gone far too quickly. It's too bad at how scotch prices have been rising over the past couple of years; as a PhD student, this is nowhere near "daily dram" territory for me. My first instinct though is that this is a scotch I'm excited to share with friends and family, and I'm very glad to have given this a try after being somewhat unimpressed with the Balvenie Double Wood years before.

29th April 2015

A little harsh but good for the price ($67) US

It was a bit rough but I normally don't drink whiskey this young. It was sweet, i tasted vanilla and soft honey.

28th April 2015

Nice dram!

Sweet, smooth, wonderful! A nice finishing touch to a day. One to try without a doubt!

5th April 2015

My new favorite scotch

Title says it all. This stuff is a true treasure to behold (especially at sub $70). It reminds me so much of a good American bourbon (the spicy, sweetness of it), but you get the floral and fruitiness and indeed a bit of peatiness and smokiness that can only come from scotch mixed in there. This stuff has a loooooooooooooooooooooooong long finish.

21st March 2015

good not great

Although I have tasted a moderate number of drams, I do not consider myself an expert. I find the Balvenie to be enjoyable with excellent flavor and spiciness, but I do not taste complexity. Then again, I am a huge Ardbeg fan so maybe I need to be hit over the head.

10th March 2015

Balvenie Caribbean

Enjoyable nose and colour, yet seems lacking in depth and disinction in comparison to its cousins. The single cask 12 year old impresses me as an affordable regular evening comfort and the double wood is still a superb entry to the world of single malt.

7th March 2015

One of Scott Walkers staffs favorites!!!

Great for the Holiday season. I liked the rum like finish it had. Smooth, yet had a real bite in the finish. Somewhat of a different batch for a Balvenie name!

31st January 2015

Gone to fast

A delightful flavor filled experience.

29th January 2015

Simply excellent

One of my best yet!

16th January 2015

Wonderfully easy, disappointingly easy?

Delicious, no doubt about it. Gorgeously rich and certainly distinct as far as I've seen in this price bracket. This said, those, who like myself, enjoy a bit more of a challenge should aim for something a bit more like an Ardbeg or a Kilchoman.

11th December 2014

Ok I could just be too inexperienced because I am still a beginner. But all I could really taste was vanilla. It is a good whisky, I could smell the fruit but I could not taste it. Any suggestions on how to focus on the various flavours?

9th December 2014

Best I've had yet.

I have just started my Scotch escapades. I have had all of the Glen lines, Laphroaig 16, Tobermory 15, Macallen 18. This Balvenie 14 is the best I have had.

It rates up there with "Mothers Milk" :)

8th December 2014

I can't get enough

it is simple beautiful.

8th December 2014

abdul chandraadan

absolutely one of the best

23rd November 2014

I'm hoping "Better after a few months" is right

Just thought I would try this. The 21 year old Portwood is nectar of the gods. I also enjoy the doublewood 12, HOWEVER, this one is really different, the rum flavor leaves a strange finish? Almost a funky bite that sits on my tongue. I'm really hoping the guy that let it sit for a couple of months is right because I really don't care for the taste of this batch. I will give it time to age and come back and give a rating. If I were to rate it now, I would give it 2.5 stars..... MAYBE 3? Hopefully I can change that in the near future.

20th November 2014

one of the best

Simply amazing dram, so complex and also easy to drink. A must for every collection 10/10

19th November 2014

Nothing can touch it !!

best dram there is!

17th November 2014

Absolutely delicious

So very drinkable. Be patient and allow it 5-10 min to open up after pouring and you'll be rewarded. Great from the nose through the finish. This and the Glenfiddich 15 Solera are stunning.

4th November 2014

the best whisky there is by far

toffee toffee toffee vanilla

1st November 2014

Fourth Bottle - still Great

This has become my go-to, for myself and for whenever I need a great gift.

29th September 2014

Wonderful surprise. Long finish.

21st September 2014

Extravagant and Delicious

Looking for something soft with a little extra Balvenie sweetness? This is your dram. BEAUTIFUL.

5th September 2014

Smoother than Mick cat's jock strap.

1st September 2014

This is officially my favorite dram

Well, not quite, my favourite scotch is the 21 Portwood finish, but the price here in Canada is just ridiculous, this is a good second place at a third of the price of the 21. Smooth and flavourful; lots of ripe fruit and vanilla. Cannot wait for my 6:00 p.m. dram every day.

10th August 2014

Great change of pace daily dram...

One of the best noses for me. The rum cask is out, loud, and proud. Bottled at 43% this expression doesn't miss a beat. It gets better the longer it breathes with a bit of water. There's an underlying fruity note like dried plum or date that sits under the vanilla and burnt sugar. This is a great whisky and one that I'd recommend when you want something a little different, but at a daily dram price point.

10th August 2014

sooth and sweet

I had been given my first taste of this from my son who bought me a bottle.
WoW if my mouth could do a happy dance this would be one of those times.
It was smooth and had a hint of honey sweetness to it. No one get to drink this with out me.

5th August 2014

Sorry I just did not like this *at all*. It tasted of cardboard and plaster to me. The same way Glenfiddich does, but twice as strong. I could vaguely make out the rum finish, a hint of spiciness that just brings it back to par, but that just didn't nearly overcome the problem, especially at this price. If you have tasted Glenfiddich and you know the cardboard I'm talking about, then stay away (unless you like the cardboard, then by all means dig in).

9th July 2014

Looooooooooooooooooooong Finish

I was fortunate this past week to be enjoying a wee scosch in St Louis Gamlin whiskey House. Our bartender was kind enough too give us a tasting of the Carribean Cask, WOW. Really enjoyed it long deep finish. Well worth your money. Will definently be picking up a bottle.

14th June 2014

Better after a few months of opening

After having tried a few balvenies I decided to give this one a go after reading decent reviews. Initially I was completely baffled, everything I'd heard about it being a smooth dram couldn't have been further from the truth, it was harsh far to for a 14 year old it tasted like a young 10. Even after a drop of water there was a taste and finish I'd never experienced it was so 'hot'?? I wondered whether it was a result of sulphering that is spoken about by whisky buffs???
I'd also read about getting a 'bad' bottle and I thought perhaps after about 20 single malt purchases it was my time to get one. That was perhaps 2 months ago, I hadn't revisited it until I decided to give it another go last night.
The difference was quite amazing it tasted like a different whisky it had completely mellowed and almost matured in the bottle...and I know that's not possible but I actually enjoy it now and get a completely new experience from it. It's now what I was hoping it would be.
I've been drinking malts for around 2 and a half years and enjoy everything from laphroaig to balblair

20th May 2014

Brilliant! A match made in heaven.

I love the Balvenie 12 Single Barrel, it was my first serious foray in single malt so many years ago. Finishing this whisky in rum casks is brilliant! The natural fruitiness and vanilla of the rum combines with the malt beautifully, rounding it out and finishing with a wonderful, long finish.

10th May 2014

Unbelievably Good

This is just absolutely amazing. From beginners to even the hardest of Islay fans - you will not be disappointed.

27th April 2014

Silky smooth

Not going to waste your time with a huge paragraph. Incredibly rich, sweet, honey. Smooth and full. You WILL enjoy this. Try it. :)

18th April 2014

Single Amber

A day will come when you will think that you have learned all the secrets.
You may think that there is nothing else to be unearthed, but there will be this place that you must visit before you are complete. A taste of the single amber will show you the rest of the way.

15th March 2014

Top Form

I really do like a variety when it comes to Scotch Whisky. From peated and smoky. To sweet and smooth. This is a top form Whisky for what it is. It's always stocked. And there has never been one person I've had taste not say "wow that is great".
Good price. A bit more than their double cask. But worth it.

4th March 2014

Wow! Very delicate!

this is one you need to roll around in your mouth to get the full palette. it's soft yet complex, smooth yet a medium to long finish. mature but still young and playful, reserved!

22nd February 2014

The notes and tastes are subtle but complex. Got this as a gift, simply one of the best. The price and quality are unparalleled. It can be appreciated by both beginners and experts. Please do NOT dilute with ice. Served neat only way to go!

15th February 2014

Surprised in Minnesota

What a lovely surprise at our home, with friends, while sampling and pairing food and spirits. Smooth and delicious with plenty of character, this 14 year old rum touched Speyside was special. Nicely bodied. Pineapple cubes to follow, along with the chill December air, was an unexpected treat.

22nd January 2014

Get this!

I recently sampled this with a friend at a private tasting event. wow!!! I was blown away. This is an amazing and ultra smooth scotch.

21st January 2014

Rich, scents of vanilla, toffee and fruit
A lot of the scents translated nicely onto the palate such as toffee, vanilla, slight oak flavor. The rum cask did a nice job rounding off the whisky.
? I loved this whisky, it was actually the first of the Balvenie line I had tried at the time and it really got me hooked. The next 5 bottles I purchased were from them (and I was happy with every one by the way). The rum cask aging is a great idea as I am also a rum enthusiast and even if you’re not, the unique character of the whisky and the smooth balance is a great addition to the whisky cabinet.

20th January 2014

Smoothness at its best

This is a very well balanced scotch for soft tasting nectar enthusiasts. It is a delicious contrast from very racy scotches I have. This one will always be in my cabinet! great scotch for summer...

19th January 2014

Great value

I loved every drop, one of if not my favorite.
So much flavor in one bottle.

11th January 2014

K Man

I have been a 15 Single Barrel fan for 10 years. This 14 Cask is by far the best single malt value there is. You'll love it!!

11th January 2014

just perfect

this single malt is really well made, the balance is perfect. i always have a 14 years rhum finish in my collection.

10th January 2014

A perfect gift

Received a bottle from a close friend as a gift. Dangerously smooth. Vanilla a woody taste blended together. I'm a single malt man, and it was a perfect gift. Excellent for it's price point (I cheated...and looked it up).

8th January 2014

For Beginners and Veterans Alike

I had only tasted whiskey once or twice and decided, for something fun on Christmas, to do a whiskey-tasting with friends. Both beginners and whiskey affectionados loved this. Paired exquisitely with chocolate truffles and apple filo tarts. Wonderfully fragrant, fruity, and smooth.

Very nice.

Incredibly smooth, a real treat for single malt lovers. hints of vanilla and that woody taste in the back of your throat really sets it apart from the rest.

Super smooth sweet, a step up from the double wood
All balvennie malts are quality but this is special.

A real humdinger of a malt. Smooth sweet and rich.
Classic Balvennie with a extra dimention.

A cut above

A real step up in quality from the 12 year Doublewood (a quality malt itself). Sweet fruity smooth with an extra richness from the cask.
Already emptied 3 bottles. The best Balvenie under £50.
Still have 3 bottles of Founders Reserve unopened have you seen the price of it now.

love this and i am a great fan of all the double wood casks

Have to agree with Mulch Monkey. Jail would be okay if you could take both with you.

6th December 2013

Not bad

The rum tones come though, but the finish is less dramatic than you would hope for. Fruit tones are mild, and it feels like a malt for beginners.

Move this bottle to the front of your liquor cabinet

Since I discovered this lovely Scotch, it has moved to the top of my list as my "go to" single malt. If you like their Doublewood - YOU WILL LOVE THIS!!!

mulch monkey

If i liked another 14year old as much as I like this one, I would be in jail. This was the most enjoyable scotch, bar none, I have tasted, in my 71 years.

3rd November 2013

Agree with the reviewer above....

but.... is it worth the £10 more than Doublewood? Proabably not.

Very Nice

Balvenie is not capable of producing anything other than fantastic product!

19th October 2013

Surprisingly great.

The Balvenie always produces a good malt but the addition of the rum adds an extra layer of character that has it surpass all of their lower priced malts.
Well worth a try.

Nectar of the Gods!!

The best scotch for the money. If you are a bourbon fan and just love sweet over peat then this is the one for you.

Latin Guy

I forgot to rate this Whisky, but here I go.

Latin Guy

Last week I had a Whisky tasting at home and presented 5 single malts to my friends, I included Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask, and by far this was the most popular whisky of the night. I highly recommend this Whisky if you are starting to get into single malts and have rum high on your list.

The Scotch guy

I thought Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix was the cream of the crop, but for the cost, this scotch is incredibly smooth and absolutely delicious.

The Champion

I tasted many fine melds over the years, this is the most drinkable over the long haul.

18th May 2013

A perfect marriage

This whisky is as smooth as any I've enjoyed. The hint of vanilla is a delightfully interesting variance.

4th May 2013

Surprisingly Perfect

My first bottle was given to me as a gift. The next 5 bottles I bought myself. In fact, I have drank nothing else since.

30th April 2013

One of the best whisky's I have ever tasted.

14th April 2013

The nose and taste were incredibly smooth. The rum influence is a great addition to a great whiskey. Get a bottle, you'll be happy you did.

22nd March 2013

This is about the smoothest scotch I think you can get for the value. The smell is like vanilla butter, and the taste is creamy and smooth.

29th January 2013

This purchase would either be a triumph or a huge mistake, but having just returned from another trip to Jamaica it felt appropriate. I was not disappointed at all. Much better than I thought it could be. Very nice in the mouth with a smooth, strong vanilla finish.
