You might not have had the opportunity to try single malt from Speyside's Balmenach distillery before, though if you've enjoyed premium blends like Johnnie Walker, it's likely that some of this impressive whisky has passed your lips in blended form. Independent bottlers occasionally get their hands on a cask, and as of now, that includes us here at Master of Malt! Distilled in 2013 and filled into a refill hogshead, before finishing up in an oloroso octave cask, which we opened up at the end of 2021 to release a total of 385 bottles.

Burnt sugar, hot caramel, dark chocolate with almonds, creamy coffee, rice pudding.
A glorious lick of toffee coats the mouth followed by a light dusting of pepper. Rich and sweet, with creamy notes of dark beer and char leading to more spicy oak and chewy toffee pennies.
A medley of brown sugar and spice, with toasted oak, chocolate buttons, a touch of treacle, and barley water.

Despite the ABV it doesn’t take water too well so just a wee drop does the trick. This is not a complex whisky but it’s got a nice nose and is tasty with a slightly sweet and medium finish. Not bad at all.
To someone getting into their whisky this is a very nice bottle. Loads going on with a nice warmth, perfect for cold evenings. A little water or ice opens it up a lot.
Beyond your expectation at this price. Buy it! Beautifully on nose, nice palate, medium finish. 30ml in the glass, finish the first half in 30mins, feel the change with time. Finish the other half after dinner, found it very rounded.——— Guangzhou China
If you like your whisky on the slightly sweeter, creamier side you’ll love this. Wonderful mouthfeel with crème brûlée, butterscotch notes. That’s not to say it’s a one trick pony. There’s some highland esque elements in there as well. It’s just bloody lovely.
Very nice malt is this, not over loaded on Sherry which is more subtle than many. Bargain for the money
