Replacing the 1975 vintage, the Balblair 1983 is a lip-smackingly rich single malt Scotch whisky from the distillery in the Highlands. Matured in ex-bourbon barrels since 1983, it's got a palate packed with cracking sweetness and a warming hint of oak.
Warm toffee syrup drizzled over a classic banana split, complete with vanilla ice-cream, chocolate sprinkles and a cherry on the top. Yum yum!
The sweet treats from the nose calm down just a little on the palate, with a spicy flutter of cinnamon and oak balancing out the fresh fruit and butterscotch rather well.
Long and equally enjoyable as the rest of this whisky.
The 1983 is a top dram from Balblair. Lots and lots to love about it.
This one is absolutely a favourite.
Had a sample at the Denver Whiskey Extravaganza. Awesome.
Wonderful whisky. I don't often pay this much for whisky, but since I loved all the other Balblair expressions so much, I gave it a go. I am really impressed. The wood never dominates. It sure is a very healthy infusion of oak after so many years, but the malt stil shines through in a big way.
I bought this expensive vinegar for a friend as a reminder of our early twenties when we were in a Will Sith tribute band called Will Smit and the fresh princes of Balblair. We were shore had our fair share of facial injuries caused by pre smoking ban implements occupying the bars and taverns of Scotland.
Its a very well balanced whisky. Pear and green apples. With a long aftertaste. Lovely!
