12 year old Aultmore single malt Scotch whisky, unveiled in 2014 for the Last Great Malts by Dewar's. A refreshing dram, with plenty of vanilla, honey and citrus, alongside a touch of grassiness. It's been quite a while since a distillery bottling of Aultmore has been released, so this is all rather exciting indeed.
Delicious, full of pear and spice, along with pastry and floral notes. Lovely light whisky, sweet and full of flavour.
Overwhelmed by it's alcoholic strength. To my palate it tasted like refined paint stripper.
I am an Aultmore fan! Had I not also had the 18(super good), this review would be more glowing for the 12. This stuff at the price point is incredible. Vanilla, Apple, Lemon, and Spice, it really is one of the more complex Speysides. Being bottled at 46%, they really let you taste the whisky. I always have one of these bottles on hand and it is by far the bottle I have to re-buy the most. It's my daily go to.
Give time to breath (both in bottle and glass), other wise it’s quite sharp in the beginning.. Nose : golden raisin, under ripe banana, spices, grapefruits citrusy freshness Palate : light fruits, vanilla, spices kick in strongly at the back Finish : soft lingering medium finish... Wonderful 12yo
First taste? Nothing to write home about, a little harsh even, so left on the desk whilst I got on with something else. Came back to it after 15 minutes and... completely changed?! Very smooth, honey and some vanilla. Bananas maybe? I didn't get any citrus but did get syrupy bananas. On first sip? Would've been 2 star but grown to quite like it.
