A Lowland single malt matured in 3 different casks, namely: Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry casks. A distinctive triple distilled whisky from Auchentoshan.
Cooked fruit, sherry, toffee, a rum-like quality and notes of Bas Armagnac distilled circa 1940.
Rich. Liqueur cherries in dark chocolate, more sherried fruit, ripe dark forest fruits, like a Black Forest Gateaux.
Superb, led by thick dark treacle and toffee notes and chewy wooded notes, balanced with a green fruit edge.

This whisky has no windup and no introduction. It comes right out with toffee and chocolate and coffee. Just wonderful!
Well another December day and another advent calendar to open and wow, the first thing you notice is this one has a darker than normal colour, almost bronze like. It turns out the taste is as big as the colour, you get a strong mouthful with lots of sherry coating your mouth with hints of cherry and chocolate. I found the finish to be a warming contrast compared to the initial mouthful, much more peppery and warming. Perfect for the winter months and one I'd be looking to try again!
I have got to the 8th day of my Whisky Advent Calender and found the best so far, but I still have 16 days to go.
One of my favourite late-night whiskies. It has the scent of cherry brandy, with a slight turpentine quality that’s a little off-putting. But the taste is sublime. Almonds, walnuts and cherries, marzipan, apples – a fruitcake in a glass. Layered on top is a brandy start that smoothens out to a sherry finish, with loads of toffee and a hint of oaky tannin at the very end. It has a long finish, especially at this price point, best enjoyed slowly.
With lots of bright fruit and citrus notes at first followed by increasing levels of rich sweet caramel, toffee and chocolate orange this manages to show the finesse and delicacy of the spirit but with dark chocolate and rich fruit following through. It's all mince pies and Christmas pudding. Terrific dram.
