A Lowland single malt matured in 3 different casks, namely: Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry casks. A distinctive triple distilled whisky from Auchentoshan.
Cooked fruit, sherry, toffee, a rum-like quality and notes of Bas Armagnac distilled circa 1940.
Rich. Liqueur cherries in dark chocolate, more sherried fruit, ripe dark forest fruits, like a Black Forest Gateaux.
Superb, led by thick dark treacle and toffee notes and chewy wooded notes, balanced with a green fruit edge.

I like smoky peat flavors sometimes but Auchentoshan 3 wood is the best Scotch I have ever tried for the taste. Rich, sweet, smooth, complex. Toffee, dark fruits, nice wood flavors very refined. Best of the best taste wise. Others, especially Islays may deliver a bigger punch with more warmth and stronger buzz. But for straight up refined taste (with no peat that is) this is absolutely my favorite and you would have to pay MUCH more to top this. I pay around $60 give or take, wish I could find for ~$15 less so I could drink it more. Don't get me wrong this gives you a nice buzz, but maybe it's the triple distillation it just doesn't hit me like Laphroig 10 year. The Auchentoshan Three Wood (ATW) is 12 year I believe (10 years in bourbon casks, then 1 each in Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks). Absolute perfection for the price, still should be a bit less, as ALL these malts should be. It's Criminal that poor people can't drink them when they need them the most.
I wish there was a way to give stars to reviews. I would give "Love Child" 5 stars for sure. That said, this is a very interesting whisky, though I will never be able to think of it the same way . . .
It's basically like Macallan 18 and Oban 14 had sweaty Scotch sex on a field of heather, and then 12 years later their beautiful love child was born, swam across the ocean and climbed into my mouth. Yum.
Not impressive. I would like more complexity.
I really love this whisky. as an Dutch saying: "It's like an angel is pissing on your tongue" I know that's sounds strange. This whisky is lovely, especially in combination with the balmoral 18 year old Rothschild cigar I'am smoking right now.
