A Lowland single malt matured in 3 different casks, namely: Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry casks. A distinctive triple distilled whisky from Auchentoshan.
Cooked fruit, sherry, toffee, a rum-like quality and notes of Bas Armagnac distilled circa 1940.
Rich. Liqueur cherries in dark chocolate, more sherried fruit, ripe dark forest fruits, like a Black Forest Gateaux.
Superb, led by thick dark treacle and toffee notes and chewy wooded notes, balanced with a green fruit edge.

this whisky is a big misunderstanding.... nothing common with good whisky, triple wood is just a trick to buy it...taste is very week, barely noticeable...mostly like alcohol or poor quality moonshine, I've no idea how the others taste it and superstitionised it but i find it either very bad or someone release bad batch on the marked
Does anyone else get a whiff of smoke from this? I know the distillery does not use peat but I always get just the slightest hint of smoke on the finish. Strange. Love it.
This was recommended to me by a bartender during a discussion regarding the more popular Scotches. I tried it and I'm hooked. Only wish it was stocked everywhere.
I had tried the basic 12yr offering from Auchentoshan and was intrigued by the flavour profile of such an affordable scotch. The Three Wood offers a similar profile, but with far greater complexity and richness. As a fan of The Balvenie Doublewood, I highly recommend Auchentoshan Three Wood. Slàinte!
So today is my birthday and I have received many whiskys that I will be reviewing in the next couple days.I had a few of my friends over for a scotch tasting last night and since this was voted the worst it was the first one I wanted to try the next day because of how highly reviewed it is (I havetried the 12 year but wasn't too impressed by it) I thought maybe it was because we had about 20 different single malts to try and our pallets were muttled. So here we go with the review:beautiful color nice and dark smells like bourbon and sherry, tastes like cherries, dark chocolate, quite oaky but theres quite a bit of alcohol taste which is the same problem I had with the 12 year but this is definitely better not quite as harsh . Don't know if I would buy this again but it's certainly worth trying glad I got it as a gift though. Also got the american oak so I will be reviewing that as well. Cheers the Sugarbear
