A Lowland single malt matured in 3 different casks, namely: Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry casks. A distinctive triple distilled whisky from Auchentoshan.
Cooked fruit, sherry, toffee, a rum-like quality and notes of Bas Armagnac distilled circa 1940.
Rich. Liqueur cherries in dark chocolate, more sherried fruit, ripe dark forest fruits, like a Black Forest Gateaux.
Superb, led by thick dark treacle and toffee notes and chewy wooded notes, balanced with a green fruit edge.

Really disappointing, no balance and sadly an unpleasant taste all around. Seems to be trying to hard to be a big bruising whisky it never should or can be.
I bought a bottle of this whisky in February. I thought it was an ok, whisky I probably would have given it 3 stars. However I had a glass last night (the bottle is still over halfway full and has been stored in my drinks cabinet) and it was very heavily oxidised almost like drinking sherry (not in a good way). I am going to have to pour the bottle away. None of the other whiskys I bought at the same time have this issue so it comes to reason that this is a problem with this bottle. Very disappointing. I liked the taste but then I swallowed my it. The finish on this is like drinking rubbing alcohol. I was not impressed and would not drink this again.
NOSE: alcohol, bourbon bite, took a looong time to develop, vanilla, citrus, hint of black plum, burnt brown sugar, little smoke. TASTE: Bourbon bite (not nice), honey, oakey, very little peat or smoke. FINISH: Long, oily, way too much bourbon-like.
One of my favorites. If you love sherry cask matured whisky, this is for you. Easy to drink and not very challenging.
